Illinois Senate Bill 3452

Thought CA's exhaust laws were bad?

A new law that went into effect on January 1st in Illinois attaches specific legal penalties to wheelies. Pull a wheelie once, while exceeding the speed limit, and the minimum fine attached to that specific offense is $100. Twice: up to $1,500 and six month in jail. Three times? $2,500 and a year of hard time.

They should throw in exhaust pipe noise law as well and change their name to "Wheellinoise".

You don't even have to be exceeding the speed limit here. If either wheel leaves the ground or breaks traction and the copper is on his rags; he can impound your bike.

What's the term of art I'm looking for here...? Oh yes; "Reckless Driving". Pop a wheelie on the street and a cop sees you here, you're getting a ticket already.

Seriously? Complaining about this?

Realistically though, no-one is going to do a years time for popping three wheelies unless they have seriously f***ed up.

I'm pretty sure this isn't just in California, but there's gangs of guys on Rice Rockets that literally block the freeways at certain times and stunt it up on the public roads. They do this for about 10-20 minutes and then zoom off. I haven't seen it myself, but Brother dear has and he says it's pretty intimidating.

IMHO it's not a bad law and I'm sure the cops will use good judgement in using it, especially if the riders use bad judgement.

I wish we could get past the "rice rocket" nomenclature...I mean, I don't call your bike a Harley??
