Aussie Cigarette Tax: HOLY SCHNEIKIES!
Is this real?

Smokers set to be taxed out of habit
- by: Sean Parnell, Health editor
- From: The Australian

TOBACCO taxes are set to be repeatedly increased over the next five years, potentially raising billions of dollars in extra revenue for the commonwealth and pushing the price of a packet of cigarettes above $20.
The proposal is contained in the latest National Tobacco Strategy, which for the first time lists as its top priority the battle to "protect public health policy, including tobacco control policies, from tobacco industry interference".

They tried that here (raising cig taxes to deter smokers). Didn't last long. People started getting shot during store robberies that were targeting cigs because they were worth so much on the black market. Also, the Native Indians started making big money selling "tax-free" cigs to non-natives. Government backpeddled.

Yes, but they banned guns in Australia. Certainly no criminals have them now.

What the hell is up with the Aussies? You can't have guns. You can't have smokes. What's next, you have to pee sitting down?

Better that than having to deal with gun toting pricks selling 2nd hand cars that smell like ashtrays.

At least you don't get told off by Her-In-Doors for missing. Sitting down is a sound precaution if you have been on the turps.
The price of cigarettes rise merely because our tobacconists don't get robbed, not by cons anyway. As you've pointed out the government is the head pack of bandits in our country. So what's the issue with no firearms? [didn't take long to become a gun thread] Would you prefer shootings or expensive durries?

IMO, this will lead to tobacco crimes, robberies, burglaries and even trucks hauling them getting jacked.
