Although I use Microsoft products, I feel the same about Windows.

True, but windows is a massive program, with lots of components that may well need updates. Adobe Reader does ONE thing, read PDF files. That's all its done for the last what, like 15 years? The worst part is the near constant reminders that it wants an update. I'm fairly computer literate, but even I can't figure out how to make it shut up...

Not only is the Adobe Reader piece of arse constantly wanting updates, but then it wants to you to reboot the computer when your done??? I mean, for an OS update I can see that, but how important does Adobe think it is that you want to stop your life and reboot your computer for the lastest and greatest software that .... lets you read, but not edit, documents of only one type. Gladly there are lots of free alternatives.
Then there is Flash from the same people which wants to update everytime I boot up, regardless of if I've done it already or if there is really a new version available.
Amazing such garbage continues to exist.
Oh, and I see the Adobe won't be making anymore updates to the Flash player for Linux. So, they are so pivitol to the internet experience that they think they can ignore an entire OS and the world will adjust to them?
Thanks, a nice diatribe feels good every once in a while.

Too many Windows Updates? Ah, well that gest better in Windows 8. There are now two of them that refuse to install on my (and many other's) systems. Every few days Windows 8 again tries to install them, reboots itself, decides it can't handle it, and rolls back. Procedure takes about 10 minutes or so.
So I had to turn off automatic updates, and when new ones come along I manually see if they'll work.
So there you go, just go to Windows 8 and don't update anymore.
Thanks for the second rant as well

None of my networks will ever have a computer with Windows 8. I'll wait for Windows 9.

Adobe has to update every time any O'S it runs on does.
That's why it's an acrobat.

Ipads are for little girls. (as he grins at wife, using her iPad.) Manly men like myself rock the web using a MacBook Pro.

Yeah, because all those 'artistic types' who favor MacBooks are paragons of masculinity...

I've got a first generation iPad and I blow very hot and cold over how much I use it.
In the middle of last year I was making a decision between updating my MacBook to one of the new MacBook Airs or buying a new iPad. I decided to try and use my iPad only for a week or 2 to see which device was most important to me and landed very firmly on the side of the new MacBook. There's stuff that the iPad does really well but there's some fairly important stuff where it falls short - lack of proper spam filtering in it's email for one. Other stuff is just clunky, such as accessing files on my NAS - there's apps that do it but most I've tried just aren't elegant to use.
I run a program called AirServer on the Mac which allows me to display iPhone apps on the laptop screen (they still run on the iphone and you use it's touch screen in case anyone thinks I'm somehow running apps on my Mac) which means I don't miss the bigger screen of the iPad.
At the moment my iPad has largely become a replacement for a notepad (I mean the type made of paper and cost about a dollar). I play guitar and make scribbled notes on it which get sent to the cloud instead of lost in a pile of paper - kind of useful as I've got the iPad already but wouldn't be justification for rushing out and buying one really.

My girl just got a new laptop, Windows 8, plugged it in and it sat there for a couple of hours doing 2.4 gig of updates.
How much of a piece of crap operating system is it that it has been on the market for like 2 minutes and needs that much security upgrading.
Windows is a toilet.
