Just buried ole Sport

I just got finished buryin ole Sport, my 25 yr old American Quarterhorse. Found him down in the barn last night, called the vet, and went back up to the barn and he was gone. I had him since he was a colt, His mother died, and dad and I took turns bottle feeding him.
When he was two days old after his mother died I took him to another farm where buddys mare had just had a colt, figured we could get her to nurse him. That never worked out, she tried to kill him. I took him over to the farm in the back seat of my 81 Buick Skyhawk, when I stopped for gas the young lad at the pumps said, is that a horse in the back seat, I said yup it is. He said why do you have a horse in the back seat? I said cause he likes to go for a ride.
This is a crappy way to spend Christmas day, but o well, life goes on.
Anyone else have a favorite pet pass on Christmas? Ithink I'll go pour my self a large glass of whiskey and raise a glass to ole Sport.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. Raise a glass to the wonderful life you gave him.

Condolences on the loss of your old friend. A bond like that hurts like hell when it breaks.

Thanks for your kind words bros. Horses live for a long time, I don't know how many times I was asked " when are you goin a get rid of those horses" but I figured I raised them from colts, and I just couldn't see them go for meat just cause they were old and nobody else wanted them. I still got ole Sports sister, she's 27 and sometimes I think she'll out live me lol!

You must have been a good friend to Sport.

I'll drink a silent toast to you both.

Sad news t-forever. My condolences.

It's good to hear the story of you giving the colt a ride in a Buick, though. That must bring a smile to your face, it did mine.

Chin up, mate.

It's wonderful how we can fall in love with animals. Even funny looking ones:
