Itunes/Ipod Help?
I'm having a situation with Itunes/Ipod that is frustrating me and my resident experts (kids and their friends) can't help with.
I have several compilation albums, Alligator Records( which are fantastic, if you like the blues) and Woodstocks for an example. When I put them in Itunes originally, since there are multiple artists I listed the albums under ARTIST as VARIOUS. There ended up being twenty-ish albums listed that way. I decided to change them to have the artist as Alligator or Woodstock, etc.
Now on Itunes that is where they are listed. However, on my Ipod they aren't listed at all under ARTIST. But, are listed under songs with ARTIST being Alligator or Woodstock, etc.
There are also a few groups that are similar.
I tried under INFO and SORTING to list them under multiple headings to no avail.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Are you sure you put it in as "artist" not "album artist" because if so then they should show up.
Also worth checking if the "compilation album" box is ticked or not although it shouldn't make a difference.
You might consider wiping your ipod and reloading everything on again.

Try syncing your iPod with iTunes, along with the above advice.

I checked my Itunes, and experimented. ARTIST can be VARIOUS, as long as ALBUM ARTIST is XYZ (Woodstock, for example), Itunes shows music listed under XYZ (Woodstock).
Syncing Ipod to Itunes didn't show music.
Are there any detriments to wiping Ipod?
Thanks for helping!

Apart from it taking ages to get the music back on if you've got a lot? Not really.
I would check under the various heading to see if the music is still there or has completely vanished. I suspect it's under various as that is the artist.

Spank, the music is still in the Ipod. I can access by going through different headings, like song. It just makes it difficult to find the music when you can't remember the song names.
It looks like I will wipe the Ipod and try to load again. Probably will take some time to reload, I have 8500 songs.
Thanks!

Have you tried to find the artist and song names by clicking on the song and "getting names" Some of the names and song titles can be found in the database. If that works, you don't have to wipe the whole thing, just re-sync those selected songs. If that doesn't work create a playlist in iTunes for those albums and artists, and they'll appear under your playlist heading on your iPod when you re-sync. You can just select those playlists so you don't have to wait to do your entire library.

But when you go via artist to they show anywhere, like under the old artist name?

The tunes are on the Ipod, just not listed anywhere under ARTIST, various or by proper name.. They show up under song, or genre. and show proper name.
When using shuffle they will play. Its when you want to listen to A particular song that there is any problem.
I have enough knowledge to get me in trouble, but, not enough to get out.
