Go Pro or Swann Freestyle type Camera?
A friend at work bought one too many of the Swann Freestyle cameras. It's brand new in the box and he is going to sell it to me for $120. It seems like a good deal and the thing has a water proof case, and 2 mounts and quite a few extras. What I'm not sure of is if I will really get enough use out of it to justify it.
If you have one of these types of cameras do you seem to use it quite a bit? What kinds of stuff do you use it for?

I had a GoPro for mebbe three years...the few vids I made of me dashing around racetracks at insane MotoGP speeds turned out to be incredibly slow when viewed on a TV screen....I just sold it and have no desire to replace it at all.

For the price it seems a pretty good deal. But unless you find yourself wanting to be an aspiring filmmaker you're not going to use it as much as you might think. They are great for sharing nice roads etc. but c'mon we've all seen that stuff ad infinitum.
I bought a Drift HD camera (about double of what you'd be paying) and when I finally got it I only did about four or five videos at a cost of about $50 per video. And.... unless you have lightning fast interweb (I have DSL) it takes hours to load a lengthy video of 20 minutes or so. Even a 40 second one takes time. The Drift is a cool camera and I like it better than Go Pro since it uses regular camera mounts, but boy that HD is a bugger to upload.
The videos I did with just my camera are adequate and believe me if you are posting they are just fine for the youtube set.
Here's one that I uploaded of my Fetching machine.

We got a Swann Freestyle, and so far it's been a great camera.
We don't use it as often as we anticipated, but we're still enjoying the videos. Here are some of the things we use it for: - My son surfs, so he attaches it to his surfboards to capture some surfing footage.
- We ride dirtbikes/quads, and some of those shots are pretty cool, like jumping or traversing narrow trails.
- We like to ride mountain bikes in the hills behind our house.
- I have a vintage Corvette, and I like to film group cruises, and when I autocross the car.
- And then there's the canyon runs and cruises on the Thruxton...
The kids have also had some fun fooling around with underwater shots in the pool, ocean or at the lakes.
What kind of activities are you thinking about using it for?

I had a GoPro a couple years ago. It wasn't the HD camera, but it did ok for what I was using it for. I sold it thinking I'd replace it with an HD, but it's never really made it back to the top of my priority list. They're cool, but I'll always find something else I'd rather spend my money on.
Here's a few videos I shot:

My friend had to have a GoPro for our dirt bike riding. I think he used it less than a dozen times in four years. I haven't seen it in a while.

I have a GoPro Hero 2. My wife bought it for my birthday in October. I've shot hundreds of videos and stills with it since. I suction it to different parts of the Bonneville for my commute, take video at parties and even got some footage of my trees getting cut down.
I also use it quite a bit at trackdays as well.
Unfortunately, it seems I'm using it more and more just to record the stupid things our cats do.

Hahaha! I've thought about strapping the Swann to our dogs for some action footage.
