Its real beer that is brewed vs the mass produced 'beer' made elsewhere. They only make limited quantities to meet the financial needs of the monestry (ie not maximising profit) and rarely exported.

I wish the hipsters would get the heck out of my PBR. Lately I've been buying the 12 packs of sweetwater for $18 including tax. $1.50 a beer versus $15. Just a wag it does not taste 10 times better than Sweetwater.

It can't be the flavor. Must be some other existential thing.

The monastery by Canyon City here in Colorado produced cider and closed shop a few years back. Not sure if it was because of poor cider sales or a lack of monk-power.
