Touring on a Speed Triple
I'm toying with the idea of buying a bike in England this nthn winter, while prices are cheap, & storing it at my Dad's place until I can go touring on it next summer. I should be looking at a sensible tourer, like a Sprint or a Beemer, but just can't get enthused about them. I liked the new Explorer 1200 I test rode a few months ago, & I can get a low mileage UK bike for almost $10K AUD less than I could buy a similar bike here, which is tempting. Another bike I could save at least $10K on is a 2nd hand Diavel, which is a left-field choice, but would be quite suitable for the job. But the bike I could save most money on, & which appeals to me most, is the Speed Triple R. This bike's an eyewatering $25K on the road over here, & quite frankly, they're not worth it! But I can get a low mileage bike for less than $14K (AUD) in the UK, which is much better value. I know I'd love the bike in the twisties, & I know that the seat & ride position are comfortable enough to do the long hauls. But what's it like for luggage? There's not many places to fit luggage to my Street, & I'm sure the Speed must be the same. So has anyone done some serious touring on a new Speedy? Are there luggage solutions that work? What other bikes would be good to tour Europe on? I want comfort, reliability, more sport than touring, & with a low seat height (so Tigers, GS Beemers, & Multistradas are out). Suggestions?
