Windows 8 sucks
I worked on my first computer running Windows 8 last week and determined the operating system sucks. It's like it was written for children. It's hard to believe Microsoft could produce an operating system worse than Vista.
What is with Microsoft creating a good operating system followed by a crappy one? Windows 3.11 was good, Windows 95 sucked, Windows 98 fixed Windows 95 problems, Windows ME more than sucked, yet Windows XP was great.
Now for the recent years. Windows Vista was pitiful, but Windows 7 is the best operating system ever created by Microsoft. I'll hold out for Windows 9, or just switch to Apple. I love my iPhone and iPad, so I'm sure I'd love a MacBook.

From what I remember, Windows XP sucked for a good few months/years before they patched it up...

The mistake you made was to become one of Microsoft's beta testers, especially as they expect you to pay for the privilege as well.

I bought a Zune 120GB MP3 player when it first came out a few years ago.

Ohh so you were the ONE.
All kidding aside. I've used Apple computers for a long time. I work in media and production, so it's always been the tool of choice.
Apple makes great products, but you have to be honest with yourself about what you're using it for to justify the extra price. I actually use both OS, I have to, but our company hasn't made the switch to Windows 8 yet, so I can't speak for it's design. Given Microsoft's track record of Good followed by Terrible, it wouldn't surprise me.

I don't love or hate Windows, I just don't use it.
Why do people continue to use it when it's such a mess? I understand that Linux was 'hacker's system' once upon a time but not for a long time now. If I can use it anyone can. There are versions of it that do everything MS does and more and it's all free for the download and install. The only way you can tell it's not MS is it doesn't crash and the money is still in your wallet.
Why do people put themselves through the hassle/aggravation of MS? And then tell us about it? It's like listening to someone hitting themselves with a hammer and then complain they have a headache.

I rather like Windows 8. It's true that there is a learning curve compared to the older systems but all in all it's stable pretty intuitive. I've been in IT for years now and I agree about Windows ME. I have to disagree about XP being the best they made as Windows 2000 was probably about the most bulletproof OS Microsoft ever released and 95 was revolutionary when it came to x86 based PC's. I'm not a Microsoft fanboy but I think that each new OS has been pretty good (with the exception of ME) and has made computing easier and more accessible to the masses which might not be the ideal for nerds like me who still miss DOS and working from a command prompt but hey not everyone likes progress. JMHO.

Some of us liked the idea that you actually had to have a brain to use a computer.

I have to agree with this. I still drop to the command prompt and do the work myself.

The unfortunately reality is that most people who have computers these days are lucky to have half a brain. From a support perspective, the simpler the better. I get far fewer calls from relatives who have jacked something up because they didn't know what they were doing. Like it or dislike it you have to agree that it is harder to screw up than the older systems that we cut our teeth on.
