All my network servers run either 2000 or 2003 server. Very stable operating systems. My workstations run a mix of Windows XP and Windows 7.
Like I said before I will skip Windows 8 and leave that for the kids. Many of my customers are starting to use web based applications, so I could switch them to Macs.

I understand where Microsoft is coming from trying to create a similar feel across phone, tablet, and PC, but I can't help but think it's going to be a fail for the PC market.
That said, I really don't understand the love for Macs or how anybody would want to switch to one after using a PC forever. Maybe with Win8 it would make some sense as you have to learn so much new anyway, but I could just never see myself learning a whole new OS family with more expensive hardware that also hase less available software (apple) unless maybe you were in a creative field where the apple stuff is favored.
In all honesty, my iPad crashes probably 20 times for every 1 time my XP Pro laptop does. Granted, it does take about 6 weeks for the laptop to boot, but I really don't shut it all the way down more than once every few weeks.
I can't remember the last blue screen I got. Must have been over a year ago.
Windows has it's issues, but from where I'm sitting Apple isn't the answer.

It already exists. It pre-dates Android and it's called Linux. Maybe try out Ubuntu with a dual-boot.

I tried Linux (can't remember which distro) a few years ago, and found it frustrating... Maybe works better now, or more likely I just didn't put enough time into it....

You can revert Winblows 8 so it acts, reacts, functions and looks just like Winblows 7. You can do the same in Winblows 7 so it acts like XP Pro SP3. You can do the same in XP Pro SP3 to make it look like Win 2kPro. Just turn off ALL of the junk. I seen Winblows 8 and I am not impressed either. Why do I need a Touch Screen on a PC or a Lap Top unless I am working a Point Of Sales type programming?

If you try one of the fully featured distros they are usable for everyone, not just "computer geeks". Mostly the difference between something like Ubuntu and MS is Ubuntu doesn't crash and the money still in your wallet. Dual boot would allow you to try more than one distro to find the one you like. My main machine is a dual boot so I can play a few games but I never let it online with the windows running so MS can't "fix" it.

Android is based in Linux, Google just "proprietized" it. OS X isn't Unix and Android isn't Linux any more so the advantages have been removed and/or "buried".

I think I'll try this on one of my computers.

just to be pedantic... OS X is definitely a Unix system. To some extent it has better claim than than Linux does at being a 'unix'.
NB That is not a criticism of Linux.
Linux is definitely a usable alternative for home users these days. I have been using it (and FreeBSD) on my home computers since '97. It is getting pretty slick and painless for non-technical users these days.
