I've noted a lot of talk on this thread about "rights and laws" and from the defenders of these absolutes, not much mention of any scale of morality... like for example, that taking a life when it is not absolutely necessary might be a little worse than somebody taking your TV. If it truly is a last resort and what a reasonable man would do, I'm okay with it. Let's call this what it is: a cold blooded vigilante with an itchy trigger finger.

i agree. this is about an opportunistic psycho who is going to argue self defense (and probably lose).

It is a shame we don't really hear about the good things that happen. Our news industry sensationalizes the worst and downplays the good.
So here we sit, making judgement calls, lacking the information to do it with.
btw: I am a holder of and advocate CCW an OC. I don't live in fear either!

What if they were your kids. I don't think execution has been listed in any states as the punishment for B&E.

Its unfortunate it turned out that way but they made the choice to enter his house not knowing what was in store for them. I dont agree with the mans way of solving it by ending their lives as he did but they picked the wrong house to enter that day. People need to be responsible for their actions. Im sure this man will find that out as well.

An ADULT does what is necessary within the laws of his locality to safeguard from harm himself and all the dependants he is responsible for. The blame most often lies with the one weakest enough to lay it.

Dude...how many men are you hanging out with??
Keep this firmly in mind...I am most definitely an 'ADULT' (your CAPS, not mine), but not aspiring to your own personal level of paranoia does not make me any less responsible than yourself...probably more so if I were to take a guess.
But then again I'd also guess that you'll come back with more BS about guns and American rights etc. - that's fine, I like a good bedtime story.

This nut bag is gonna do time. You can't drop someone, then shoot them in the face and cry self defense.
This happend a couple of years back in Oklahoma City. Two teens run into a pharmacy brandishing guns attempting to rob the place. The pharmacists pulls his own gun and starts emptying it, hitting one as the other ran out of the store. The wounded teen was unconscious on the floor when the pharmacist grabbed a second pistol and unloads it into the kids gut finishing him off.
The pharmacist is currently serving life.

Rather than buying a gun and falling into that trap, I'm going to put out a warning sign on my front door and load the world's funniest joke into the household alarm system.

I am curious about something that doesn't appear to have been brought up; why, after the initial shooting, did the second one go down into the basement to begin with? She had to have heard the shooting; 5.56 isn't a quiet round.
Self defense ends when the attacker is no longer a threat. On the ground wounded and unarmed isn't a threat. Laughing at you isn't a threat. There is a man in prison locally for just this kind of shooting; a man tried to break into his house (turned out to be drunk neighbor at wrong house), and after shooting him shot him in head while on ground.

the only evidence about what the people shot did, when they came down the stairs, if they came separately or together, if they laughed or not etc all comes from the shooter.
We have no real idea of what happened based on the news report other than 2 people were shot multiple times and the shooter has told a version of what happened.
