I think there's too many unknowns in this...
Had the home owner ever been the victim of a home invasion before?
Why would the second perpetrator continue after hearing gunshots? (I think I would have turned around and run for my life).
Why after being wounded, did she laugh at him?
My guess would be some sort of mental or chemically-induced condition.
He had no way of knowing whether or not they were armed and it didn't say if they "broke in" through a locked door.
I have steel doors and deadbolts on the exterior of my home and if a forcible entry were to occur, I would most likely use deadly force to protect my wife and children.
I would first advise them that I am armed and would hopefully have the presence of mind to fire a warning shot prior to disabling them.
If they were to fire first, all bets are off and I would strive to make a killing shot rather than a "stop".
In any event, such things are horrible at the best and it would be terrible to take another's life needlessly.
Can't say for sure how I'd react in the heat of the moment, but would surely be aware of the legal ramifications of my actions.
My firearms are like my tools and I try not to associate any "ego" with them vis-a vis their caliber, type of round fired, magazine capacity, etc. any more than I would discuss the limits of my torque wrenches, circular saws and so forth.
They have a specific function and are used for only that.
The firearms are secured, but quickly accessible and my kids are trained in firearm safety. Few of our friends even know that we own guns.
It will be interesting to follow this story and the upcoming trial to see what the outcome is.

Not sure but I know what I would not have done. Shooting them in the face/chin after emptying my mini 14 into them would not have been an option.
Actually I take that back. It was probably the only option since he didn't want them telling their side of the story.
Oh yeah and by the way, I'll call the cops tomorrow?

Simple. If these kids wouldnt have entered his house they'd be alive. End of story.
The guy appears to be off his rocker by waiting a day to report it but looks like he's been robbed before and was prepared this time.
Doesnt matter if the dude is bat **** crazy. He was bat **** crazy in his own home THEY CHOSE to enter.

I have to say if he shot them after they hit the ground,,,well that would be wrong. That said if these miscreants invaded my home and I believed my wife or myself was in danger I would be quick to eliminate the threat and not with a .22 but a .45 ACP. A resonable response to invading criminals.

I'll wait to form an opinion until I know the full story, and chances are, I never will.
Like most others, I wouldn't hesitate to take the same mesures to protect myself, my wife and my son.

They broke the law and they should be punished but execution with no judge or jury is a little harsh and they were executed based on the guys own words.
What if they were your kids. I don't think execution has been listed in any states as the punishment for B&E.

It does make a case for having higher caliber weaponry. One or two shots and I'm sure our executioner would be sitting at home sipping a beer right now and I would be fine with that.

And when you own and choose to use you must know the laws and follow them or you end up being the one in jail.

You come into my house uninvited... That's the risk YOU take.

Depends on if i consdered them a threat. If someone broke into my home I doubt if they want to just talk and be my new best friend.
Believe the laws are such to justify deadly force but his life was no longer in jeaporty when the kid was lying prone.
He was justified up to that point. Now he's likely to be charged with murder.
