Fair enough. Me? I'm neither a big person or a particularly strong person, physically. My best defense would probably come from owning a gun. Given the small chance that anyone is going to enter my home with the intent of doing me or my family harm, I can't see myself spending the time and money needed to make myself a "lethal force." And I'm not sure I would like to think of myself that way. I worked hard to have the resources I need to own a home in a low crime neighborhood. I keep the grounds lit at night and have a safety ritual about locking doors and windows.

You've officially taken your eye off the ball and are now onto WW2 instead of the OP.
In an attempt to bring you back on topic, we're talking about individuals protecting themselves, not nations. I don't care to get into a psychoanalysis of a nutjob like Hitler, at least not in this thread.

Individually the gun laws made little difference to the jews since the vast majority of them werent armed anyway.
It would have been more likely that taking their money off them would have prevented the holocaust than guns. The nazis had no problem attacking people with guns. The jews were rich and generally disliked, that was the only two things that were needed, arms or no arms.
I dont necessarily have a problem with an armed populace but it is foolish to think gun laws played any part in what the nazis did.

I'm with you on most of this. Unfortunately violence like home invasions or break-ins can be quite random. Some might argue that your nice home is a target for those that have less. A barking dog, a baseball bat and a good flashlight can go a long way to protecting what you have worked so hard for. Here's to hoping that it never comes up for you or anyone here.

The armed resistance fighters of each country the nazis invaded caused huge amounts of damage and carnage to the German war machine. Slowing an all mostunstoppable march and conquest of each country. The loss of lives on both sides was horrific. The Germans did not invade Switzerland as they were told every man, woman, child had a gun and would resist. Just a bit of history showing gun laws were looked at by the Germans.

That, and the mountainous isolation, are why Switzerland and West Virginia are rarely invaded.

and your evidence for this claim would be what?
It's certainly true that the Nazis planned to invade Switzerland and that they did not execute the plan but the reasons for that failure are not clear [to me at least]
They also planned to invade England but failed to execute that plan either.

I go to bed and come back the next day and you guys have turned this into a WWII thread. Holy crap. I was simply amazed at the level of violence and stupidity in the original story.
I keep my guns locked up. I have two dog that will let me know if anyone comes in the house while I am there.
If they come in while I'm gone they can have whatever the dogs let them take I have insurance. My TV is not worth killing someone over. They were practically giving them away last Thursday.
