Alas, I also found out last year or so that Levis doesn't make the 505 in a "Regular" fit any longer. The only Regular fit are the 501's.

You can get Levi Signature in a Regular fit at places like Meijer and such. The last pair of new jeans I got were from Eddie Bauer but again, they tend to not fit as high but they seem durable enough for now.

I have Eddie Bauer and another brand of fleece-lined and flannel lined and like both. I use them for cooler weather outdoor stuff or to wear under my hunting coveralls, so they don't get a lot of abuse but I've had them for several years without any problems.

Well now you're just getting philosophical. I don't think I'm qualified to comment on this thought!

You won't find any of my old Levi's in a thrift store either. I wear 'em till they can't be worn anymore.

Since Ive lost some weight, and in a fit of optimism, I have bought two pair of jeans. One thru the local Surplus store, levis 560s. They felt pretty stout. Then I ordered a pair of Riggs made by Wrangler. Now these are work jeans with double material for the knees and I think they will wear very well.

I do have some Uh.... bigger jeans bought at the fat man's store years ago and they also seem pretty darned heavy and have worn well.

None of them are like the good ol 501s that I had as a kid and did things like roll em in the dirt and crawl around in the trees to get them grungy enough to get the newness off (there was a Disney episode on TV that I copied). Then Mom would wash em up in hot water to shrink them and she had frames she bought to hang em up on the clothes line to dry. In the Winter there were lots of times that they froze before they got dried and were like boards. You just stood em up in a corner till they thawed out.

Ahh childhood memories. BUT..... I don't miss the button flies.

That's why I still buy the 501's. 505's just never seemed like real Levi's.
The double knee Carharts are a close second for me.

I had a bad experience with button flys and whisky once. I usually steer clear of the first one and use far less of the second these days.

You want real jeans made in USA? Try Texas Jeans or Roundhouse overalls.

Although they're not made in USA any more, the Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans are the real deal. Seriously heavy duty.

Most denim including what goes into a pair of Prada jeans comes from China, so what's the definition of a US made jean?

I can only assume that a bad experience with a button fly is much better than one with a zipper fly.
