As a kid spending the summer at a great uncles place in Custer, SD, we would watch at dusk as the wild stallion would come to "court" the domestic mares. He was super horse, knowing a 30.06 was following him he would keep the mares between him and the end of the barrel. Always got a couple mares each year. Never got shot at any of the places he raided.
Horse meat is very lean and must be watched closely on the BBQ or it will curl and burn.
