You can`t light a cigar or wipe your bottom with polymer notes, so they are no fun for filthy rich people.

Not true... I use one for a golf ball marker.

Every now and then I get a US dollar coin back in my change instead of a 25 cent quarter. Thank goodness for near sighted clerks in the supermarket. I think the dollar coin failed here not because it was shiny, but because we made it too close to a quarter in size to easily distinguish and there is no slot in most cash drawers to hold it. Same thing killed the two dollar bill, there was no place to put it in most cash registers. I've been a big fan of electronic money for a long time, but coming out of Sandy I've learned firsthand you can't rely on debit and credit cards in an electronic communication failure. Seems like plastic folding money is just harder to counterfeit on a color copy machine. I think going back to trading in animal pelts may be looking more and more viable.

I love Canadian coin, especially the gold and silver maple leafs. They are also smart enough to halt the minting of pennies unlike us Americans who are still making the foolish coins at a loss.

You have to think out of the box, with enough of them you could actually PAY someone to do those things for you so in some sense they are good for something...
