Old helmets?
Does anyone know of organizations that are interested in old MC helmets. Just replaced an HJC, and wondering if it could be put to good use (for other than a planter)? Thank you in advance.

Good question... I've always wonder this also, but never actually asked.
I currently have 3 old helmets in my garage... and one more given to a friend for use on his go-cart.
I'll keep checking in on this one. I hope you get an answer!!

Helmets have a shelf life of maybe 5 years or so. The shells outgas and their impact performance degrades over time.
When you're done with your helmet, but the strap off so that someone doesn't use it for protection that it can't offer anymore, and pitch it out.

I did a quick google search and found two interesting ideas. The first is to donate it to a local motorcycle school so they can cut it in half and show students how a helmet is built and why everyone needs one. The second is to donate it to an emergency rescue school so they can use it as a prop when practicing motorcycle related injuries.
I found another idea that just simply stated, "Target Practice"

I'd nominate this for the Best Idea of the Day award.

I like that idea. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
I even have that HAS been in a crash so it'll be realistic.
But I'm keeping that one as a reminder every time I walk into my garage.
