Hey Wind,

I think you said that you liked the Gasolina boots. I do too, and I have worn several of my many pairs of Chuck T's to ride in occasionally. However I usually ride in some form of motorcycle boot, and I like Mrs. Irish to ride her Bonneville in similar attire.

If you like the Gasolina boots, but don't have the cash to spend I highly suggest these:

Mrs. Irish and I both have a pair and I love mine. Great fit, comfortable and seem to offer better protection than other forms of footwear, but possibly not as much as some motorcycle boots.

Maybe you should start drinking commercial beers until you have bought the gear you need?:Fencing

Seriously, you mention not being able to afford riding boots and then come back saying you only drink expensive beer? Priorities man, priorities. Now you're just fishing for attacks...right?:skeptical

I really shouldn't have replied but I couldn't help myself. :DeadHorse

Hey, Wind. Ouch. I used to be on FocalJet, till my son totaled my SVTF several years ago. Several of us used to go over to VIR for track days. Not sure if those old posts are even around anymore.
I work in a hospital. Seriously. Protect your feet. Canvas ain't gonna do it.
As far as laces. two words. Duct Tape. No fun getting laces tangled up in the pedals braking for a corner, either.;)

Thanks Dave. I just sold my 2002 SVTF. loved that car. I'll be careful with the laces. I promise. Scouts honor.

FJ is a different forum. People there are really great. What was your screen name?

Not to belabour the point, but the first time I rode my wife's bike I dropped it (OK, maybe it was the second time), I was wearing tennis shoes, and to this day I have no idea how my ankle didn't get crushed...I was very, very lucky indeed. I did try the workboot option, but as already mentioned it's very difficult (at least for me) to shift with them...I wore them just once.
But we're all adults here, and we're all capable of making our own choices....ATGATT is great when you're actually ON a bike, but it's a bloody nuisance when you're not...you figure out how all that affects & pertains to each of us and you go from there....I guess?

These may not be your style, but I wear them for commuting/all day at the office or when just putt-putting around:

They are far better than your CT's. You said in an earlier post that the Lacostes didn't protect your ankle, implying that the CT's do somehow. I have news for you - they don't. If you doubt me, put them on and give your ankle bone the most gentle tap with a hammer.

For more serious riding I have these:

TCX S Race. I like TCX, because I have a wide foot, and they seem to fit me better than other brands. If your foot is less like a duck's than mine, your choices are much greater.

My real point, as was mentioned earlier, is you CAN find much better choices than CT's for riding for not that much more than you paid for them. The second part of my point is my less protective boots still get worn frequently. I didn't immediately consign the Cubes to the back of the closet, when I got the Races.

It's possible I'm just a marketer's dream, though; I wear golf shoes when I play golf, rugby boots when I play rugby, and motorcycle boots when I, well...you get the picture. I'm just much too fond of walking to trust the integrity of my feet to my riding abilities.

what i meant by that was that the locoste's come off me feet easily. The CTs wont. Not saying that they have some sort of magical protection. but at least they'll stay on.

Assuming they stay in one piece that is.

I'm no Taylor but I was given to understand that motorcycle gear was stitched specifically for more strength.

WT, back to your original question, it all depends on your priorities.

- does it look good?
- is it comfortable?
- will it make me less likely to be injured in a spill?
- am I immune from having a spill?
- how much money am I willing to spend?
- how willing am I to risk injury when a simple gear choice could mitigate it?

You rate the importance of those questions and answers and make your choice. That is no one else's business (unless you ask for other people's comments)

For me, (well most times) I prefer to rate more for safety than looks or getting a cheap deal. I have had several bike spills over the years and this tends to make me feel less bulletproof. I know it can happen to me.

Other people make different choices. Up to them.

Regarding your shoes, they aren't a riding boot, they are a look, comfort, price shoe.

As a riding choice they will have as much protection as a sandshoe.

If you are willing to accept the consequences and risks (and advantages) of that then go for it, what other people think is their problem.

If you ask on a motorcycle forum for opinions on them as a riding boot, you will get opinions on them as a riding boot. Generally the responses will be negative as they basically have no more advantages as a riding boot than would a pair of sandshoes.

I've already admitted they arent the best ride boots. and have taken advice and am looking into a deal on a pair of boots from a member here. I feel like no matter what i say i'm going to get attacked for something. If its not my boots/shoes, it's my beer, or my money.

It just seams a little rediculous. In all seriousness. I'm sorry if i've been fired up or seamed heated. I'm just not used to it.

I'll apologize to anyone i've gotten of on the wrong foot with. I really do value and appreciate the knowledge on TRAT. i hope that i haven't ruined any reputation i had. I'm ducking out now.

Things i'll genuinely take with me.

Better boots saves ankes
Watch the laces
Have thicker skin
Expect answers i may not want to questions i ask.

Sorry again.

I think this thread is only serving to cause annoyance to all involved.

1. if you ask for opinions, expect opinions you don't like - wear it you asked for it

BUT

2. if you want to express an opinion, avoid getting personal or winding people up

3. people have the right to make choices we disagree with
