Valuable skill to have.
I started teaching mine to safely cross the street starting at four years of age; by the time they started school a couple of years later they fully understood the concept. I still didn't let them cross busy streets without supervision until they were older. I trusted my kids, but not the drivers; the same ones that "didn't see you" on a bike will use the same excuse for pedestrians.
Some of us "writes as we speaks".
Local vernacular, I can understand Spanks sentiment. It is all in the way you say it, some peoples of different countries do not mean everything they say literally. Call it poetic licence.
It has nothing to do with "local vernacular", or "poetic licence"; it's trolling, plain and simple. It's an ongoing game with him.
Mate, you wanna visit Oz and comprehend the distances our buses have to travel, remember we are 23 million people spread over the same rough geographical area as your lower 48. (with 350[?] million)
Having had 5 children over 17 odd years travelling large miles to and from school, I sorta know a bit about this, just a tad.
Instead of taking the cheap way out, and disrupting traffic flows, and having school buses being a pain in the arse, we actually build safe pull off areas for the buses. Every child is taught exactly how dangerous the roads are, and the safe way to get on and off a bus. That being, get out the door, stand there, wait for the bus to leave, then look both ways if they have to cross the road, and do so safely. And heh, the kids actually learn some road safety.
Differences between our respective countries in laws and traffic situations concerning school bus operation have nothing to do with the original topic. It was about some self-entitled idiot who drove down the damn sidewalk with no regard to the safety of others. The only reason I explained the traffic laws in the US was to point out how serious the offense was considered, here, where it occurred.
Stop dumbing down your children, treat them as adults and they will behave as adults.
I've never been guilty of "dumbing down" my children; quite the contrary. But the fact still remains, kids don't always consider the consequences of their actions, and generally lack mature judgement. This why we have minimum ages established for such things like driving, voting, entering into legal contracts or buying alcohol and tobacco. Treating them as adults will not guarantee that they will act like adults, no matter how much wishful thinking you apply.
The system I have seen here teaches the kids that they can just get off the bus and bolt across the road.
Under our current system, the bus driver also acts as a crossing guard; this allows the kid to cross the road safely. Careless drivers have no excuse; they either stopped or they didn't. It's a good system; it works for us. It still has nothing to do do with the original topic of this thread.

Our local vernacular equivalent for "taking the piss" is "talking out his ass because his mouth knows better". It seems to manifest itself in almost every thread he posts in. Most of the time I don't bother replying to his posts unless he spouts some seriously outrageous BS. It's always a 'no win' situation with this guy. And I do this for fun and enjoyment; who's the bigger fool? .......TT.

No, I disagree, the difference in road laws concerning buses has everything to do with the incident.
If your buses weren't such a pain in the arse, it wouldn't of happened.
As far as I am concerned, your system is fatally flawed and the incident is the direct result of it. Never would of happened in Australia.

I've been driving in Houston traffic for 40 years; stopping a minute or two for the occasional school bus is merely a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. This, along with stopping for red lights, stop signs, school crossing guards, road construction flagmen, pedestrians in the crosswalks, and even the occasional contract police officer who stops traffic to allow large volumes of departing employees to leave plant parking lots to facilitate timely shift changes, while sometimes frustrating, all go with the territory. By having a driver's licence, one agrees to follow the traffic laws. Frustration, impatience, or an elevated sense of self-entitlement, never excuses putting others at risk. As I said before; nobody needs to be in that big a hurry. ............James.

I want to hurl all kinds of negative things...but I will not. It is unfortunate that they do not require IQ tests for people like this before they get a license. She probably has had a high lead diet explaining her ignorance and stupidity....

I agree with the reporter's view that she just doesn't get it.
Put her in the stocks for a few days, then she'll get it.
