I second what Air Pirate said. Try to think of things that would be fun - Spencer's instead of Walgreen's - and things not readily available there. Everything they NEED is available there, think of things they might WANT.

My wife used to send us Arizona iced tea bottles filled with bourbon.

Mail from family & friends is the number one item in my book. It's nice to know people realize you're gone.

What else should I send him?
Thanks for supporting your buddy and the troops. Having been to AFG and also having received and processed over 10,000 care packages during my time at Camp Dwyer, let me give you advice on what to send or what not to send...

Everyone loves beef jerky, hard candy, baked goods, magazines.

Do not send chocolate

Do not send porn (everyone already has plenty of it)

Do not send DVDs or CDs

Do not send any clothing items that are not uniform items or cannot be worn to the gym.

If you send alcohol, put it in a white Listerine bottle and double/triple wrap it inside ziploc freezer bags.

Can you tell me what base your buddy is at? I can more specifically tell you what to send or not send. If he's at a large base like Leatherneck or Dwyer, he already has access to a lot of geedunk and goodies at the base mini mart.
