well, yesterday was pretty epic. I was asked by a friend to help with Jeff Keith's (Lead singer for Tesla) Ride for Reason yesterday. The origional plan was for me and my brother and parents to meet the group at the placer county fair grounds at 11:00 AM yesterday. Then they asked us to join them for the ride so we could enjoy that before the concert part at the grounds. We'll, since we're a small group and would be needed early to help with admission and security they were going to put us in the VIP pack (60 bikes) so we'd get there early. This group included the Band, his family, his personal body guards and the rest of his entourage and the main security pack
Well, in the process of staging there was some confusion and the #3 bike didn't show. They needed a fast enough bike to pull ride blocker duties and be, basically, a road body guard for Tesla. So the lead securty officer came and asked me if i'd ride in that #3 spot. I told them i'd do what ever they needed me for. So i ended up riding right behind Jeff Keith and Frank Hannon for 100 miles.
The ride stated in Folsom and my friend Jay was on his built and cam'd wide glide, and his friend Scott on his, basically a racing bike, Night train, were the main in town blockers. They had the easy parts and Jay told me. They got to block each stop light and then catch back up before the next one. They had extra lanes to pass in. Me and Joseph had the "hardest section". Well i hit my first block (where Lotus road T's into HWY-49. when the bikes were going around the corner Jay and, all of the sudden, My brother come flying around the corner to block the next one at Marshall grand and 49. Now that the whole group is through Joseph and i had to get back to the front, on a two lane road before Cool's 193-49 stop. So I got on it and started passing when could. Joe was right behind me. Once i got on the down hill grade toward the stop my brother is now at i had a clear shot in the divider. i had to swereve around brandon like a game of chicken to avoid the car on my left and head up the hill in the other lane with a blind corner ahead. peaked 120 to pass 60 bikes and slip back inside behind Tesla for my next block. It was awesome.
Then the rest of the ride was un eventfull. till we got to the fair and had to kick out a stip club owner who thought that at a family event it would be ok to put up a stipper pole and have his girls strip. really? there's like kids walking around. Idiot.
Thanks for reading i know it was long but i had to tell you. i'll probably get in trouble for admitting to speeding, but it was only to block and keep a large group of people safe. Would it help that the local CHP and Sherrif were aware of our presence and authorized us to do what we needed to be safe. They even offered that if they had man power they'd have escorted us. Just sayin.
