Center stand or rear wheel stand

I outfitted the Tiger with a center stand, to among other things, make it easier to change the oil.

Dang stand when it's down gets in the way of the drain pan - so I can't use it. I wanted to get a rear wheel stand for other reasons but I'm wondering whether it would be of any real use now that I have the center stand.

Certainly I can use it for other bikes - but all my (2) bikes both have center stands anyway. I suppose I can always get a third!

Probably can. I have another oil catch which will probably work too - but I hate using that thing because it's impossible to carry when I want to recycle the oil.

Doesn't sound like a rear wheel stand is terribly useful for someone who already has a center stand then.

Well...I'll share my recent experience with a Bonneville center stand. See what you think.

I managed to get the stand installed...including the "c-bracket" and springs (insert roll-eyes here), and then managed to jam the thing the next morning when I went to ride the bike raised it up. (Oh...so that's the reason/direction/etc. for relocating the muffler band clamp screw...I did move it but I digress...). In the frustration of the moment I managed to bend the c-bracket and just removed the stand altogether. Honestly, besides being too heavy imho, I didn't like the design of it from the moment I first saw it but anyhow...

What I've decided to do is to replace the bolts with "pins" that can be easily removed, yet are secure enough for me to do my chain maintenance and whatever. Then when I'm done, I pull the pins and put the stand back on the shelf. This eliminates the need for the springs and associated hardware, which only serve to keep the stand up and out of the way while on the road.

My need for it is really only for chain maintenance, and I'd rather not have it hanging on the bike everyday....

Just a thought...(sorry if I rambled a bit...getting old you know...).

I took the centre stand off my Scrambler as it was ruining my lean angles, & rattled like buggery too. I've got a race stand for my Street & I love it. It's no harder to use than a centre stand.

I bolted two boat winches to the ceiling of my garage and lift my bike up with them for oil changes and other under-bike-malarkey.

Well, I have both, and both are hard for me to use by myself (but that's because I'm a 5'4" little shriblet with arthritis). I could pop my Ninja 500 onto the center stand in 2 seconds. I struggle with the Sprint. Not only that but I can't get it back off easily either. I could sit on the Ninja, give it a couple of rocks forward and that was that.

I almost dropped my Sprint last summer getting it down.

As far as the rear stand goes, I didn't bother to see if I could do it myself. I asked a neighbor to come over and hold the bike level while I worked the stand.

I do think those SSSA rear stands are very, very stable. But, you can't take them with you on a ride so a centerstand is still a good idea.

Does the Tiger have the SSSA? If so, TRex makes an inexpensive stand for the Triumphs that is reversible. So you can use it on the left side for tire changes, and on the right side for doing the needle bearings in the swingarm.

I put my center stand on (twice) and no rattles, no riding angle problems, worked like I wanted it to. But..... I started to fiddle with my suspension and now it's useless with out a 1x6 under it. So I sort of hoisted myself on my own petard. Don't matter tho. It works for what I want it to do, so no biggie.

Still chasing my front end so it can catch up with my sweet rear shocks.

I got a paddock stand back when I had my SV650. The Bonneville has a center stand. The paddock stand now just hangs up in the garage somewhere.

If I need to get the wheel up off the ground on Mrs. Irish's America or my TW200, I always seem to just use my trusty Harbor Freight motorcycle jack. It just seems easier and more secure and stable than the paddock stand. I never liked that thing.

I don't have any problem with the center stand on my 07 Tiger fitting a drain pan under the bike. If there's a head wind I might have a little bit blow past the pan when the stream runs thin but I just put a rag there if that happens. I don't think I'd want to wrestle the Tiger onto my paddock stand. I have a hard enough time using that thing with the DR. Besides, the center stand comes in handy for lubing the chain and other repairs on the road.

I know. It's another reason why I got it. My chain is turning that dull orange indicating that I need to clean it ASAP and quit dumping that half-dead can of chain lube to cover it up.

I think the issue is my drain pan, not the stand of course. But dangit I like that drain pan - two handles so that I can lug it like a gas can to the auto store to recycle it.

Go to Auto zone. Get low oil drain tub $3.00.
Get free standing plastic funnel $6.00

For nine bucks you use the stand as it is supposed to be used, funnel the oil from one low pan that fits into high, non fitting pan and carry with the two handles to the recycle guy. How far do you have to carry this contraption?:D
