Aussy swimmers slamed for facebook photo with "guns"

I just love odd news. This is odd. BBC news.com.
Seems two Aussy swimmers training in America went into an American Gun shop. That was a no no. They then had their picture taken holding two shot guns and two pistols. Very bad no no. Worst offense? They posted to one gents Face book and all hell broke out at home.
The Australian Olympic committee has threatened them with every thing except hanging in order to force them to remove picture. It is UnAustralian to show a swimmer with a gun (Australian).
Seems Australians can have no contact with guns and have forgotten that number 1, boys will be boys and 2 that the history of that country is rich in the settlers overcoming the wilderness with their fire arms years ago.
I know, many, many Aussies agree with forgetting that part of history but to punish two young men who will probably never even see a gun again in their lives the punishment is far worse than the image deemed damaged. Of course this is IMHO only.

Guns do not belong in the hands of Olympic athletes.

From just five shooting events at the inaugural 1896 Olympic Games to 15 today, the sport has grown steadily alongside the advance in firearms technology.

They broke no laws. They can look all they like as long as one is not sold to them. Hoplophobes (those with an unreasonable fear of weapons, especially firearms) seem to be more prevalent every day. The pair should just lawyer-up; that may put an end to this foolishness. ..............James.

Let's see, Aussie swimmers have to swim with crocs, great whites, and aquatic drop bears... they're gonna need bigger guns.

They were merely showing their support for the Australian Olympic Shooting Team.

Just to put it in context, these two lads (like most normal young men) both have a prior history of being on trouble once before, so the wowsers in our community make them an easy target because of their high profiles. (pun intended)
Whilst we are not a gun culture type country, guns are not rare or difficult to obtain in Australia, but the shear size, type, and overtness of the gun culture in the USA would attract any young bloke from Australia to have a first time look.
The only people they have upset are the right wing do gooders, who believe they must protect the rest of us from our selves.
The Australian Olympic Committee has always had more than its fair share moralists, more worried about appearances than reality.
