I'm pretty sure that is how the 2CV was designed and built new.

That's exactly what it's designers envisaged for it. It was a car for French Farmers to use & abuse, & keep running with fencing wire & ingenuity.

Most of us refer to our bikes as feminine. There is a reason.
Some bikes are "Honey, will you get me a beer before you make dinner" reliable.
Some bikes are "Get your own damn beer after you empty the garbage" demanding.
Some bikes meet you at the door naked with a gallon of olive oil and a pitcher of beer and say "let's party".
You know there will be a price to pay later but you know it is going to be worth it.
That's the definition of character. Is it worth the trouble for the fun you have?

I rate the Honda 400/4 as one of the most fun bikes I've ever owned. It looked great, cornered hard, & went every time I hit the button. It sounded a bit muted, & earned the nickname The Hoover (vacuum cleaner) from my mates with larger bikes. But they were just peeved about getting carved up in the twisties by a little Honda. Did it have character? To me it did. A bloody cheeky one, just like me.

I have very fond memories of one I bought for $300. It was the bike I had the most serious crash on - a head on that took my right knee. But that was my fault, not my cute little 400/4's fault.

That bike OOZES character. Look close I'll bet there is a little character there on the pavement under it. Think of the stories that outfit could tell.
