Australia:Bald head=no school for you

Reading BBC World news in the morning is really enlightening some times. Came across a small story that you would have thought possible only in America. Whoa was I surprised, it was in the land down under.
Seems every year there is a huge charity drive by citizens for cancer research and people dye their hair, wax it and shave it off. Only in some school districts if you shave your head you get suspended, kicked out, made to wear a dunce hat.
Beings the school administrators are the only ones smart enough, capable enough to raise your child for you you must get their permission to alter any part of your looks to help in this charity event. You know how stupid and dangerous teens can be and how adults must prod and poke them to get involved with anything other than Xbox games and crime? Well, you can't have a teen go off and decide to shave his head in a desire to support a charity we out approval can we now?
Edit: How in the world did Jonkster and Dog get through school?

That's a big assumption that they did.

From a positive perspective, and as an arguement supporting back-up, this may not be the best example...

I wish it was that easy to get out of going to school when I was a kid.

Odd, if I grew my hair in HS, I had to get it cut shorter before they would let me back in.

Just to give more background, that was at Padua College in Victoria. It is an independent catholic college and they set their own rules on dress and hair and discipline etc. As I understand they all have to wear hats. Independent schools often are quite strict with dress standards. Parents would know that when they send their kids there (and pay fees to go there).

State schools as far as I am aware have no problems with people's hair - I know my sons mate dyed his hair green (for the same charity event) and has had no problems.

Not even the Dog Institute has come up with a believable explanation for that yet...

Pfffft - Where do you get this rubbish HAP? Everyone knows that all manner of hairdo problems may be covered up with a large sheet possessing a small slot for visual purposes. Once you are wearing such a sheet you are exempt from any further possible persecution of any sort; in fact you don't even need to go to school anymore if it doesn't suit.

My school had a rule that hairstyles could not reflect the extremes of current fashion.

A few people had to work in the library until their hair grew back.

I imagine the rule was instituted when punk was more prevalent but I'm just guessing, It was only ever invoked on people who had "skinheads".
