yup, that guy really is a retard, the other guy's just pretty normal though.
As long as he gets "fast" out of his system on the safer roads he shold be okay.

#6 ·
As long as either of them don't hurt anyone else in their escapades in velocity, I don't really care. If you aspire to be a red stain on the tarmac, more power to you.

Hey shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....
Don't tell some of the "experts" on the Thunderbird forum chopping your airbox is a dumb idea.

#12 ·
Yes, I realize that. He chopped his frame to facilitate an airbox mod.

#13 ·
I thought that chopping the frame is some states would render your bike as "un-saleable" in the future. (I'm sorry, he (as a new rider) won't have to worry about selling the bike later.)

#14 ·
well, 120mph isn't completely suicidal as long as you're careful.

#15 ·
C'mon spank. You can do better than that

200 kilometre/hour (kph) = 124.274 238 45 mile/hour (mph) :D

#17 ·
well I've not been over 120mph on my speed four, it's sketchy enough at that speed so I don't even get up there much, 80-90mph is fine for me.

#18 ·
I dont know much about the speed four or your riding ability, My point was that 200 is not really that dangerous on a clear stretch
on a good road away from the city. But it all depends on the bike and rider, this guy probably doesnt have the skills or experience but some people seem to think anything over 70 mph is akin to putting a shotgun in your mouth. My point was you can hit 200 briefly at minimal risk but if you make a habit of it you will run out of luck.
A well known journo here in Oz was taken to task for exceeding 300
KPH = 185 MPH on public roads while testing an MV Augusta. That is CRAZY.!! :motorbike2:Sheep:Sheep

Oh I agree Mark, I've got a mate that rides to work at 150mph most days, he's somehow still alive.

#21 ·
don't worry I don't know about my riding ability either.

Probably best described as erratic just like everything else.

I'm not condoning excess speeds, but I've done 285km/h (177mph) on a Honda Hurricane 1000 about 15 years ago, and I found it quite stable and controllable. I've regularly hit 170 on my Speedmaster, but only because it doesn't have enough Hp to go faster, no control or stability issues. For a new rider, I think it's nuts, because he has no idea how distorted your sense of distance and time gets at those speeds.

When I was 16, I was out on a bike doing about 250km/h at night when I saw taillights in the distance. Before I knew it, I was right up behind the car and almost rear ended him.

Marc I am filled with admiration that you would share such personal feelings with us ;)

Hidey I was talking in general , that bike ( No Way) so KPM as Marc explained thats very fast , is that an atomic thing or something to do with your gearing.?? :p

Look, if this kid wants to get killed, all he has to do is follow these easy steps:

1. Line up next to a friend at a stop sign.
2. Make sure there is a cop behind you.
3. Speed away from the stop causing the cop to chase you.
4. Stop bike but don't get off of it.
5. Make a vague motion with your arm that could be interpreted a million different ways.
6. Get shot by motorcycle-hating, trigger-happy cop.

There you go. All of that without having to grind away your frame-spars.

Someone is going to have give me the "short version" as to why this guy chopped his frame to go a 125 MPH. I'm lazy and lost interest in the sited thread. :)

In my 44 trips around the Sun, I've hit that speed on both two and four wheels. At 44 this is no way, no how, testosterone talk either. The fact this guy wants to speed neither impresses or disgusts me at this point. I just don't get it. Why chop the frame?

Hell, my Sprint's still has my top speed logged in the gage ...and it's faster than that. (PS don't let your teenage son find pull it up on your bike...like mine did) With that said I didn't cruise at that speed, and I didn't take outrageous chances risking my life, license, or anyone else. So I have to ask what the hell is the big deal. To me acceleration 0-70 ( interstate on ramps!) is more of hoot than top speed anyway.

Like I said, I'm an old guy way past trying to "impress" anyone....I just don't get it.

It is two idiots. One is a rookie rider who wants to hit 200kmph (link I posted) and the other is aguy who in the process of modding his bike, figured it was a good idea to chop the frame rails to improve air flow.

But I do agree: acceleration IS more fun than outright top speed.

#33 ·
Cornering is even more fun than acceleration. I did an indicated 170 mph in a corner on the 675 on a racetrack, and it was a whole lot of fun. 170 in a straight, clear road is a bit boring.

Cutting up the frame is one of the dumbest things I have seen in a while. Beats me what he's thinking, but rationally doesn't come to mind.

Got a buddy with a 1200 daytona and he regularily runs 290kph down the highway. I keep tellinkg him that he is almost 55 and I am the one with the leather jacket ala the wild one, perhaps he should be a better mentor and we should trade machines. He keeps telling me age is in the mind. I tell him I like my skin cells where they are. He laughs and says once you are afraid your may as well be dead. I thought frankie fear was my friend.

By the way triumphs are lame.
Nice of you to drop by and enlighten us. I'd really like to think that you've considered possible reasons that people might be expressing the opinions they are expressing here, but chances are you've left the forum and will never read this. If you do, please keep in mind that it's better to sit on the couch and decide you could have gone faster than sit in a hospital bed and wish you hadn't.

It takes years of experience and good training to handle a high performance motorcycle well. I hope you're listening.

It's OK, let him kill himself. One less moron in the world is not a bad thing.
One more skilled motorcyclist who wasn't killed because he was mentored rather than berated is an even better thing.

For the record, he's not some stupid kid. No, he's a stupid 34 year old "adult"(I use that term loosely.)
Of course, chronological age and 'adulthood' AKA 'maturity' can often be independent variables... :p
