In attaining a music degree, I studied conducting for a year. Hardest courses I have ever taken. It is so much more difficult than it looks.

Godspeed You Black Emperor. Post-rock, drone music. So good.

Listening to the second best band to ever come out of Canada - Rush being the first - and also one of my favorites: The Tragically Hip

Himskelly, I've seen The Tragically Hip twice, in B.C., and have four of their CDs.
Another Canadian band I love is Blue Rodeo. Had to go listen to this one. It's very close to how they are Live (this one starts slow and builds up). They're sometimes hard to pin down to a genre, but they're somewhere in between country-ish and rock-ish, but they're not what you'd think of as country rock. They tend to go off on long jams live, often with an amazing, wild 10-minute Hammond Organ solo.

Just heard "Whisper to a Scream" on the speakers at the drug store...made me think of this song too...
You know youre getting old when they are playing the music you thought was "alternative" over the drug store speekers...
