Classic Art Deco Beauties

For no other reason than I feel like posting some pics of automotive objects d'art from a bygone era. So we can all appreciate some timeless designs.
Like this gorgeous old BMW

Or the very definition of Art Deco

& leave it to the French to have the last word on style.

I think it's called a Majestic, & I don't know anything about it except it looks incredible (& unridable)

Of course the French have been doing Art Deco masterpieces for decades.
Like this Delage D8-120

Not to be out done, Ettore Bugati made this work of art

& then there's the best car that America never built.
The Tucker

Man those old cars & bikes had style.
What's your favourite design era?

For me, design begins and ends with the Italians. Maybe it's because I'm Italian, but I can always be impressed with their designs. The only downside of Italian design is that when it's bad, it's bad. Witness the Lamborghini Espada. It hurts just to think about it.

If I'm going to go with an art-deco car, I'd choose the Delahaye 135 with Fagoni & Falaschi bodywork. There simply isn't a more elegant car on planet Earth.

Pretty much any Alfa gets me going. I don't care how bad of a car they are, I love them. I would love for Alfa to come back to the U.S. because I would buy a Mi.To in a heart beat.

French design always intrigues me. Unlike the Italians, who seem to design numerous beautiful cars and then make one strange one, the French seem to make numerous strange cars and then one shockingly gorgeous car. Take a company like Citroen. For years they made some really strange and ugly cars. Then they come out with the C4 and I just can't stop looking at it. It's so gorgeous.

My favorite art deco car is both Italian and French. The Bugatti Atlantic owned by Ralph Lauren. Here are 2 shots:

Jeremy Clarkson says that you're not a real car-nut unless you've owned at least one Alfa. So I qualify. I had a 33 4X4, which was a fantastic little rally car. I ran the wheels off it, until the rust got too bad. I called it Berocca, because it dissolved in water. But drive it down a mountain range & all it's faults were instantly forgiven. Would I own another one? Hell yes! Especially if it's this one.

I was oh-so-close to buying an Alfa GTV6 a few years ago until it overheated on the test drive and the seller wouldn't come down in price. I am also forever on the look-out for a mid-sixties to early-seventies Giulia/GTV that doesn't either need a complete overhaul or cost an arm and a leg. The ones I've come across either have a tree growing out of them or cost as much as a new Audi... and sometimes both!

Last word on style? It looks like the love child of a basking shark and a cheese grater!
