I saw that Avatar movie the other night...
Am I the only one who was rooting for the marines in their stoush with the smurfs?

Probably not... I found the storyline to be a little dumb. Over the top 'eco-nut' and save the planet message. The whole speaking with the trees thing was goofy. That and the floating mountains, flying dragons (for a lack of a better term) that would only have one rider, etc. However, they purposefully made the soldiers exaggeratedly greedy and self serving and did so in a way to make people dislike them. At first I thought that calling the mineral 'unobtainium' was a joke... Then they kept calling it that, so I caught on that the movie producers actually had the stuff named that... Really?

I laughed, I cried, I ducked, I convulsed, I contracted acrophobia, I found myself longing for a robot suit, then I walked into the theater and put on those glasses.
I'm waiting for a 4D movie where you can go backwards in time and not spend your money on the film... and yet still enjoy seeing 9 ft. tall smurf chicks wagging their tails in your face.

Man... garbage movie. You know there's something lacking when the advertisements have no dialogue.
And for those that haven't seen this...

Saw it at I-Max 3D.
Pros - Excellent effects; it's amazing what can be done with computer imaging.
Cons - Half-a**ed plot; very contrived, a cheap rip-off of other sci-fi story lines. A few examples off the top of my head:
Dune(read the book, never saw the movie)- Protagonist is taught by natives to tame flying dragons instead of sand worms. Also taught by natives to survive in the hostile alien environment.
Star Wars series - Protagonist joins with the natives to fight the better equipped antagonists = the Ewoks vs. the Empire. The natives even live in the trees; no originality there.
Protagonist gets tuned in to the magic vibes of the planet = "use the Force Luke". Main Antagonist (the colonel what's his name) retaliates against the Protagonist for not coming to the "Dark Side".
The Matrix - The physical body in one place (connected to machinery), while acting in another remotely. The scene where the Protagonist first enters the avatar = Neo entering the Matrix.
Give the special effects guys a raise and hang the lazy script writers. The movie would have been better with the sound OFF. I give this one a "thumbs down"; and look for it to be available in DVD very soon, once the word gets out. ..........James.

Saw it last night in 3D and enjoyed the special effects. I think you guys are looking for too much from what is basically a kiddy flick.

I wasn't impressed by the visuals. I don't know if there was something wrong with the projector where I saw it, but the gf and I saw it in 3D and had great seat and it was all... fuzzy. So no plot, not interesting, and visually mediocre.
This is one of those movies that will sell well on BRD/DVD... and I have no idea why. There's no point watching it a 2nd time (especially if not on a big screen/3D - though as I said, that was still a huge disappointment)

Too many adult themes to qualify as a kiddie flick IMO. It might qualify as a "chick flick"; we haven't heard any opinions from our distaff side yet. I like my sci-fi plots to be more original and entertaining, with better acting. Give me Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) any day of the week; that's good acting. ....James.
