This is fantastic news!
Wow.

How are you preparing? What is your intended route? How long will you be there? Tell us about the bike, a 500 cc single cylinder that weighs what, 350 lbs? Are you going alone? Have you read up on the people in the area? Have you been to India before?

big trip

Going on an organised tour with British Bike Tours, the bike may be a 500 or a 350 don't know yet and don't really care, we're not going for a race. Being sponsered for charity sounds like a good idea, didn't really think about it. My wife is up for it which I didn't she would so that's a bonus and she understands that she won't get western luxuries good one

Congrats. I hope it's everything you want it to be. But TBH, it's not something I'd like to do. Hot, dusty, overcrowded roads, with minimal regard to any rules, on a slow heavy bike, doesn't appeal to me at all.
Over here Postie Bike Outback Challenges are all the rage. Usually done as a charity event. People buy used Postie Bikes (Honda CT 110) & ride them 1000's of klms, over Australia's worst roads. I came across a large group of them on one of my bushrides west of here, a few weeks ago. They were spread out for about 5 klms along the dusty track, looking very dirty, depressed & bedraggled. No one looked like they were having any fun at all. Just as I was about to blast past the lead group, a 3 dog road-train coming the otherway, had everyone struggling to get their bikes off the road. I just slowed down, while I negotiated his dust cloud, & kept on riding. I know which bike I'd have rather been on.
But don't let me rain on your parade. Just coz I wouldn't like it, doesn't mean that you won't. & if you post up plenty of stunning pics, of the good times & great places you've been to. You might just change my mind (or at the very least prove me wrong)

Hey Cat, let's beat the rush and start being jealous now!

I'd be useless on a ride like that; I'd wear out a camera before I got through a tank of gas.

OS, I know a TRAT member from Tucson who said the Postie Challenge was one of the most entertaining things he's ever done.

I wish I had the nuts to go on a ride like that. Who knows - maybe one day? I'm gonna explore the USA first.

But bonnieboy - great stuff - go for it and enjoy!
