If Barrett-Jackson even considers putting that car in their auction, I am never going to take them seriously again...

Don't take Barrett-Jackson seriously now. They're the worst thing that has ever happened to these cars. They sell some cars there that are absolute crap, FILLED with bondo.

Nobody knows how to fix the classics anymore. There are no fender bangers anymore that know what they're doing. They have no idea how to fix a dent without massive bondo or replacement. For that matter, if it has to be replaced, nobody knows how to fabricate anymore. And B-J is filled with those cars.

Nowadays, everyone thinks their car is a B-J classic and price their rusted out POS's like they're made out of gold. We have people all the time coming in, wanting us to buy their '69 Camaros, '71 Chevelles, '66 Mustangs, like they were brand new cars, and 70% of it has to be removed or fixed. That includes roller cars. So, instead of these cars being found by the garage tinkerer, it ends up going to some half a$$ed body shop that fills up with putty, and have no idea how to actually fix it.

We've had to turn down some very classic cars, because we'd have to cut out the entire floor, trunk, rear quarters, lower valances, rockers, window openings....the list goes on. If they wanted us to do all the work RIGHT, it would cost them close to $30K in labor alone. But they want us to do it for less than 5K. Pfffft. Right. With that budget, you end up with crappy work. We're working on a Camaro right now, that had the lower rear quarters replaced, and instead of tack welding it correctly, they layered it over the old body cut. And then placed on there, no kidding, 3/4" of Bondo. The owner is trying to save money, so we agreed to fix this at the cheapest price possible. (if it was mine, I'd replace it and tack weld it correctly) So, we are fixing the bondo, and we have a bare amount of bondo to cover the crappy rivets they used, and tack welded properly the parts that were loose.

But the guy still paid way more for the car than it was worth. They're getting rarer, but not that rare. Buy yourself a cool 80's car (I know, no such thing), but with this cash for clunkers junk, they will be worth something someday.

I have an '81 Lincoln Continental (based on the Grenada) that I'll let go for $65. You have to haul it off before I'll give you the money. Seriously!
