Is M*A*S*H* the best American TV series, evah?

It's on TVLand, just now. But I have a drive full of the series...from Peirce saluting Radar, Radara announcing Blake, and BJ's stonehenge Goodbye.

My parents were both in medicine. Vietnam. But I can't imagine it was much better than Korea.

Is it just me, or is this and other 70's comedy-drams (All in the Family, for instance) the most poignant TV ever produced?

And *** is wrong with us and our MTV/Reality McCulture?

Certainly ranks up there in my book, although I am more of a Seinfeld fan. Totally agree with you on the Reality/"15 minutes of undeserved fame" TV culture.

MASH? Nope. I used to think it was funny, but it doesn't do much for me any more.

Seinfeld is funnier. Friends is darn good too. Scrubs also deserves a mention.

As for poignant, nothing beats Band of Brothers.

Neither MTV nor reality TV have anything at all to do with culture.

I think a few of the most heartfelt, poignant and least offensive posts made on this forum have been made whilst the poster was less than stone cold sober.

Not saying the old ethanol guarantees a good post... but just saying it doesn't rule it out either!

All in the Family has to top my list.

Seinfeld,..never thought it was funny.

Oddly Cheers had it's moments

But then again Carol Burnett and Benny Hill were more my speed

M*A*S*H* was cool, but a bit milquetoast for me. The less Alan Alda was involved the better. There is so much good TV on now though, I don't think those were the glory days of TV:

I'm watching Arrested Development now, what could be better? 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Z Rock, Reno 911, The Sarah Silverman Program all feed my warped sense of humor perfectly.

Saving Grace, Breaking Bad and Damages are all fine dramas. Sopranos re-runs rock.

There is so much cool documentary stuff: Extreme Engineering, Alaska State Troopers, Nature documentaries, how they build stuff, worlds biggest stuff, worlds weirdest stuff, I love it all.

I know this says far more about my shallowness than anything, but I'd rather have my Tivo in present day than in the day of M*A*S*H*.

Memories of the "good old days" are usually exaggerated IMO.

PS: I just figured one inebriated post deserved a similarly-hindered response

Well the first generation of the series with Trapper John and Col. Blake were the best. Once they left, Radar and Frank Burns carried the torch of funny. After that, forget about it.

Klinger was made a main roll, ugh! BJ and Maj. Winchester? Horrible.

The Col. Flag episodes were the best.
