Triumph Hurricane - any ex or current owners?

Hi,

I've been aware that this bike (pictured) I think started off as a bike by BSA????

Then triumph took over the model and re-branded it as a ''Triumph Hurricane''.

Is this correct? Also has anyone ever owned one and what are they like to ride/reliability and longevity etc. ?

Cheers,

Casper

BSA and Triumph were effectively the same company in those days. BSA made the A75 Rocket 3 with the tilted cylinders and more rounded engine cases, Triumph made the T150 Trident with vertical cylinders and more angular cases. You are correct in thinking the Hurricane was based on the A75 and then badged as a Triumph, it was designated X75. The design was by Craig Vetter.

Dave,

If you play that video (and thanks for posting it), Craig Vetter is slightly worrying towards the end; he starts off in quite a normal conversational way then....... he takes the model hurricane and makes worrying motorbike noises and runs the model up and over the box it came out of..... Whooooy there Craig, have you taken your medication today mate?

Oh well nice bike though!

That model would be a great addition to the Triumph Classic Line. Use the 675cc motor from the Street Triple and it will be a BIG winner!

Found one in 1980; rough shape, pieces missing, up for sale along with a '78 T-140. Bought 'em both, rode the T-140 for awhile, then sold it. Net price on the Hurricane $1200. Rescued it from becoming a chopper, but it's been in storage for 29 years (bad on me- raising a family, mortgage, parents to care for, yada yada)! My son is now an adult & very interested in the bike, I built a garage with enough space for it, & it will be moving in for an assessment very soon. Craig Vetter's website has a detailed account of how the Hurricane came to be, along with other interesting projects he's been involved in.

That is just what I was thinking. It would be a good counter punch to the new Honda CB1100 retro bike. That dream bike would be a nice addition to the Triumph line-up.

Is anybody on this site good enough with Photoshop to knock up a visual using the watercooled engine so we could get an idea what a modern Hurricane might look like?
