If you are sporting the PS1 I’m going to just assume you are a casual gamer. With that in mind it doesn’t matter if you get a PS3 or Xbox360 as the only difference in the games are a few exclusive title that one would have over the other. The 360 does have a more comprehensive online system, however PS3’s online system is free of charge. You can stream Netflix movies on the Xbox right now, however you will soon be able to do this on the PS3 (and Sony won’t let you watch their studio movies on the Xbox). The PS3 controller is slimmer, the 360 controller has a layout more natural for shooting games (IMO). The PS3 just had a price drop to make it a bit more competitive, the Xbox has many different configurations/prices (get one with a hard drive though).
With all that said, if I were you, I’d get the PS3 if for no other reason than it can double as a blu ray player.
Oh, and I’ve never found a motorbike racing game that I could enjoy playing. I find it incredibly difficult to judge speed in the games and for some reason just can’t get the knack for them (I do have a knack for highsiding into the stands). The good news is, the bike racing games are available on both systems and they come out every year so buying one used is good financially (I think I bought the 2008 WSBK game for under $15usd). Though I must admit I know of no game that has the IoMTT course, though that doesn’t mean that one of them may not have it.
