Moto Guzzi Stelvio or Tiger?
There is a Moto Guzzi Stelvio for sale on Ebay here in Wichita. I have been looking at the idea of a Tiger sharing garage space with my Bonny. I have always liked Guzzis as well. Here is the item number if you want to see it: 290361895416 Just copy and paste the number into the Ebay search bar and the auction will pop up. Do any of you have experience with this bike or Guzzi's? What do you think of the bike? I don't know how serious I am but I emailed him to go look at it.
Thanks for any imput!

Its heavy and it won't do off road. But neither will a tiger. Personaly I think the Guzzi is ugly. If you want a true dual purpose on off road tourer the BMW (wash my mouth out ) GS800 or a KTM990 would be a better bet.
If you want a tourer why compromise with the tiger? I don't get what bikes like that are for to be honest. They are like SUVs that never get out of the city. All show and no real purpose. Best Triumph tourer is a sprint or a D955 with hard bags.

Thats funny you say that because I was bidding on a 2001 Sprint a few weeks back. Here is the link.

I saw the same Sprint on a ride in Arkansas last week. It was pretty nice. I'm wondering what a fair price is for a 2001 Sprint?

Couldn't say exactly what a fair US price is as I'm in the UK. Here I reckon about £3500 - £4000 for a low miles couple of years old bike.

I am a MG fan but the Stelvio came in dead last in a 4-bike comparo in a past issue of Bike. On road it was a nice, smooth bike with adequate power; off-road it was totally out of its element. The Tiger was not part of the comparo as it makes no pretensions of being a dirt capable bike. IMO go with the Tiger if your riding will be on pavement. On a side note, the KTM Adventurer looks impressive for a big dual sport, but the BMW F GS800 or its little brother the F GS650 would be a good place to start. I would also consider the V-Strom and the Wee Strom bikes. But those are bikes I'd consider and in no way represent anyone else's opinions or experiences.

I just read another review by Rider magazine that pretty much ripped it a new one. I am about positive that my Bonny will have a stable mate in the next six months. It's going to be interesting to see what I come up with. I'm kinda all over the board. I do know that it will be mainly for 3-10 day touring trips to places like AR, AZ, CO, TN etc. I'd like to spend between 5-8k.

As for the value of an 01 Sprint I'd guess in the low 3K's. I have an 00 with 21K on it in very nice shape that I'm probably going to list for around $3,200-3,300. I saw an 04 with only 4K miles recently for $3900 and it was in real nice shape. Wished I'd grabbed that one.

I trust a Triumph more than anything made in Italy. Guzzi seem to be better than a lot of Italian bikes reliability wise (not that that's saying anything), but Italian business practices (don't like the owners? Wait ten minutes...) do not inspire the confidence I need to buy a motorized conveyance.
YMMV, of course.

Is there a Guzzi dealer close to you that can get parts for the bike?

Sadly several Italian motorcycle companies seem to be in financial difficulty so bear in mind future values and spares availability. I too have a soft spot for Guzzi but as we do big tours of Europe,Pyrenees and Alps etc, I want guaranteed reliability and Triumph does it for me. The Tiger 1050 is a great tourer and also fun. A friend has just traded his 1050 Sprint for a new 1050 Tiger and is very happy.I traded my faithful 955 Tiger for a 1050 Tiger and equally impressed. 8700 miles in 6 months fully loaded and copes with everything.
