Blue Collar Emperor ?? Special Invitation to Sal and Hide

Would you rather be an Emperor in Ancient times or the king of your middle class castle in suburbia today ?

Sorry Sal and Hide ahead of time you inspired me to start this thread. I was enjoying reading your debate " lack of a better term" and wished it could have continued. So hopefully you will continue here?

Hope I dont offend too much with this. But if I do, I will take the advice from Nickwiz's thread " Is it jsut my age or ? and " I wont sweat the small stuff ! "

I also found it quite funny that there was many references to grouchy old guys in Nickwiz's thread and going off on rants and spurred one on. LOL
I look forward to reading the many enlightening thoughts and opinions. LOL

When I was younger I would have taken the emperor gig every time! Now I'm an aging relic I'll go middleclass suburbia with good healthcare, and snow plowing in winter, every time!

But I wouldn't mind being an emperor one day a week - just to say "hello" to the lovelies in the harem!

There was no electricity or plumbing either. Of course there was also more wildlife, clean air and water. I think I could make a case for either time period.

So long as i was in charge of collecting State and Federal revenues, i'd pick king of the castle every time..

Average life expectancy was what, 35 years? I'd rather be poor and old.......

And anyhow you Americans, you already are the new Empire. Never mind the ancient emperors why not have your cake and eat it? You can be emporers and have a modern govt run healthcare system!

Hmmm....perhaps a few (not exhaustive) pros and cons

Emperor
Have large armies do your will
A harem!
Smite your enemies
a bigger harem!
your word is law
An even bigger harem!
Execute whoever pi$$e$ you off
a truly massive harem trained to satisfy your every whim
Being in the history books that may glorify your great deeds and a choice of being assassinated or......
Dying of exhaustion in a harem now so big you can't find your way out of it!

Middel Class wage slave
No harem
suburban anonymity
Still no harem
wage slavery
still no harem not even a small one
You may not live longer - it just feels like a long time
End up too old to use a harem if you had one....retire going loopy & watching daytime TV.
But lifetime of riding your bike hoping the rozzers don't catch you speeding....

Hmmm....a difficult choice......... wonder if you can get single track chariots ?
