Wonder what sort of scratching it does to the chrome?

pfft! on my pipes who could tell, the frikken thing has been down the road more times than I have had hot feeds. I don't think I will damage them any more than they are now.

Chrome is a much harder metal than aluminum. Aluminum won't scratch it.

If I start using diet coke for polishing, will I have to drink my Nevr-Dull?

The only time I would use this is if I had some hopeless rust on some chrome. Otherwise I think Never-Dull or some chrome polish would work just as good, and also leave some protection on there as well.

I doubt that anyone is advocating using cola and foil for polishing, but only for rust removal. If I did use this I would polish it really well afterward, and not just wipe it up with paper towels.

I've used aluminum foil and WD-40 on some rusted chrome on my Honda C70 Passport, and it worked very well.

When I was a kid (more years ago than I care to remember) it was said that Coke removed the rust from car bumpers (they were chromed back then), maybe something to do with the phosphates in the soda, I'm not sure. Anyway, some parents tried to keep their kids from drinking it on the basis of it's rust removal properties. I drank it like water and had no ill effects.

But......the "village idiot" thinks that it does remove hair from one's head: Jim

I would think the soda for the acidity and the wd40 as a lubricant would work great together with the aluminum...I would have never thought of doing something like that....
