New York No Longer Following Democracy.....
Being an RN and having practiced New York State I am shocked that they made it mandatory to get the H1N1 vaccine for health care workers. Basically saying no shot you can be fired. . I for one do not need some POS in albany telling me how to manage my life. What is next are they going to dictate how to arse wipe next?
I support health care workers getting the vaccine voluntarily but to usurp their rights and make it manadatory I find that deplorable. What the freak are they thinking and what other rights are they going to take away next. No wonder NY is such an anti gun state...it is hard to dictate when your population is armed...I for one say piss off to the jerks in albany...

If you don't get it, don't work in a hospital where you can infect immunocompromised people. You're free to not get the vaccination, also free to find another job.
Didn't we already have this discussion?

No we did not ...we discussed the benefits of getting the shot or not depending on your view. We did not discuss loss of civil liberties and being dictated to like children by a bunch of ignorant, corruptable policiticans. Evidently the NY Supreme Court agreed with the nurses fighting it and put an injunction on any mandatory immunizations regarding H1N1..Last time I checked we were not in a dicatatorship or Nazi Germany....
Marty feel free not to contribute...I will understand.

Just for arguments' sake:
Could a surgeon get into OR if he/she refused to scrub up?
What about a nurse in the same situation?
What about wearing a mask?
My second youngest was a week in NICU, we couldn't get in without scrubbing up either. What if I thought that was unfair - it's my kid and my germs!
Can you smoke in a hospital?
Can you get a visa to certain countries without having the vaccinations? Doesn't this restrict your right to fly?
Should hospital boards mandate the sterlization of surgical instruments?
Why should I have to drive on the left - I learned to drive on the right, and prefer it!
If you have sex with another person, knowing you have a serious comunicable disease, and you pass it on, is that assault? It is in some jurisdictions.
These are some of the ways in which individual rights are already infringed.
How is the H1N1 vaccine different? And it may be.....

I'm with Haggis on this one. It's no different than requiring them to wash their hands. I realize there is a difference, and that is just because a person is immunized does not mean they cannot be a carrier of a disease. That said, imagine the health crisis we would have if hospitals were understaffed because of a flu epidemic among doctors & nurses. Hello!!

Lee - is it a license issue?
Who is dictating to the RN's? The licensing board?

Just a hypothetical here, and playing devil's advocate..... what if it's discovered later that the vaccine is harmful in some way. It's not without precedence...

that is always a possibility...unlikely but a possibility. When I got the swine flu shot in the seventies some one died from it and furthermore people were getting gullien Barre from the injections.
