Apt management tells residents to take down flags...

I find this whole thing deeply offensive:

http://www.katu.com/news/local/64059697.html

I'm not a huge fan of lawyers generally, but in this situation I think one might be appropriate.

Displaying the flag is 100% legal.

The only possible case the apartment complex could have against flying flags; is if the tennant signed a lease agreement that says they can not.

If it was me, I'd sue........ and then fly even larger flags.

I can almost see where there might be issues with flying flags from the apartments, i.e. drilling holes and such. But asking them to remove them from they're vehicles is a whole different kettle of fish. And yes, if the lease doesn't specify, then displaying it in the window or other means which doesn't modify the building (or deface the flag) is completely within limits.
I bet they wouldn't have any problem with the rainbow flag or maybe ACORN flags.

Who owns the property? My guess is a foreigner from the Middle East; who else would be offended? It's time we passed laws making it illegal for individuals who are not naturalized citizens to own real estate or businesses in the US; with SOME exceptions for corporations. The flag is a symbol of our nation; if they don't like it, go home! ...........James.

I live in a town-house complex and the assoc rules dictate what sort of window coverings etc we can have (which included flags in the windows) and are limited in any structures that may be fixed to the outside of the building, but that is ok by me as those were the rules when I moved here.

I cannot see how any resident assoc could try to dictate what someone could display on their vehicle, unless what was being displayed was offensive 'to a reasonable person', in which case it probably would not be allowed on the street.

we don't fly the flags much here. Back in the 80s the far right national Front draped themselves in the Union Jack and pretty much coopted it to stand for their racist bollox. Personaly I find that a real shame. I have a Union Jack on my helmet, on my jacket and I know it gets up some people's nose. They probably think I'm some racist fascist. But I stick to my guns. If its OK for Jamaican or Indian taxi drivers to have their flags then Its bloody well ok for me to display mine and don't tell me I'm some kind of Rascist to wear it. The Union Jack belongs to all British people not the idiotic minority.

It sounds like the management of that apt block are succumbing to the same lily livered rubbish that saw the Union flag disapear here. Just because some ignorant people find it offensive or attribute the wrong meaning to it, doesn't mean we let those people own the flags or that people proud of their country should take them down.

The one exeption you find here to flying the flag is when the world cup is on. You'll see English St George flags everywhere. Me I don't go for petty Nationalism. British is far more inclusive. You can be from all kinds of cultural ethnic backgrounds and be British.

You know what's more offensive than the landlord's lame-a$$ move? Snide comments about middle-easterners, the gay community and ACORN.

Seriously, I worry that we might run out of diapers for all these "uber-patriots."

My implication was that Rainbow Flags and ACORN logos would be safe from such discimination. Since they are part of the "Protected Class," Yet a US flag on display seems to stir controversy among the entirely too many people.
Seriously, if a US flag bothers people when it's displayed in the US, then they might want to re-examine they're priorities and perhaps they're choice of country.
Don't need diapers, thanks for the concern. But you might want to ensure your skirts are pressed before you go out.

Seriously? You believe that? And your proof of this is...?

I apologize. A more dignified term would have been "adult undergarments."
