Delta Bloody Airlines
Delta Bloody Airlines
After saving for two long years for a holiday in New York I decided to book a flight from Scotland to NYC. Simple you may think.....I decided to book through Delta Airlines which have a direct flight from Edinburgh to JFK, this was ideal. We decided not to go from Glasgow which is only 20 miles from us because they did not go direct. We did not want to waste part of our holiday in Amsterdam airport. Five days to go I get a phone call from DA's rep in Atlanta to infrom me that the direct flight has been discontinued and that they now have rebooked me on a flight which has a 3 hour wait at.....yes you've guessed it, Amsterdam airport. So not only do I have to travel to Edinburgh and catch a very early flight (meaning an overnight stay at Edinburgh) but we will be travelling farther spending more time travelling, leaving to come back half a day earlier and costing me more.
No excuse or explaination was offer, no mention of recompense was offered. All they said was contact our corporate customer service which I hve emailed three times and got no reply. So now my wife is hacked off, I'm getting no joy from them and its a question of theirs nothing I can do but put up with it......
Hope the rest of the holiday goes without a hitch or I'll be in the divorce courts.

Spend the 3 hours in Amsterdam eating space cakes.

In advance, welcome to the USA.
I hope your visit to NYC is pleasant. There’s plenty to do and to see. I can’t imagine you not having a wonderful experience here.

Sorry about your bad experience, but don't let it ruin your holiday.
I hate Delta. I flew them twice last month and they were late both times. Aging fleet and average service.

One small upside: the Heineken in the Amsterdam airport is the freshest, bestest I've ever had. And there's a small Van Gogh museum, and the vendors take any currency in the world (you receive change in Euros.)

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is the best, cleanest, most efficient airport in the world. The food is good, all manner of services are available, including an art museum, and a short-term hotel for catching up on sleep, and there is a high-speed intercity train station in (under) the terminal with connections to all of northwestern Europe.
I've flown frequently into and out of Amsterdam. You couldn't pick a better place to make a connection.
It's not unusual to have flights changed. It recently happened to me on a trip to South Africa, I used it as a reason to extend the holiday by a day. What do you want them to do, just cancel it? It's a result of the deregulation of the industry, which is what gets you those good low fares.
Enjoy your trip! New York is good fun.

If you have the time beforehand, check out Travelocity. They give you several choices of carriers and have good prices. In August, I flew on Lufthansa to Frankfurt Germany direct/non-stop from Houston,Tx; the round trip cost me $800.00+$40.00 trip insurance. Once you pay, the price is locked in; they use the E-Ticket system.................James.

FYI. When you get to NYC buy a NYC Pass for site seeing. They sell 1 or 2 day passes and they get you free entrance into most of the sites in the city. Saves a lot if your going to do the normal type site seeing in the city.

I bought these when I took my son there this past spring and we fit as much into one day as possible. Probably saved 50% total.
Enjoy your trip.

Not sure if you have the time but you might look into seeing if you can find a last minute travel deal on a better flight.
Last time an airline changed flight times on me I canceled the flight and got a full refund. This was on a cheap econo flight, no travel insurance etc. My cancellation was their fault for changing flight times not mine.
If you can find something better it might work for you.
