Old or new Sprint????
I love my Thruxton! Especially for those summer’s evening hooligan runs. But it is kind of a one trick pony and doesn’t really fulfill all my motorcycling needs. And being that I’m turning 50 next month, I’ve been revisiting the old bucket list. I think its time to pack my bags and ROAD TRIP!!!!
What I would like to know is this. Do I keep my Thruxton and buy an older Sprint? Or do I sell the Thruxton and get myself a shiny new 2009 Sprint? And what are the advantages or disadvantages of an older or newer Sprint, mechanical, technical or anything else.

Whatever option maximizes the number of Triumphs in your garage is the right option. I say that despite the fact that the latest generation Sprints have the second-best looking factory exhaust in modern motorcycling, and one heck of a stonking motor.
Don't discount the Daytona. My 955i and I have been from Idaho to Missouri. See the ride reports forum for documentation. Just add risers and some luggage.

Get an older Sprint ST/RS or a later model Daytona and keep the Thruxton. Then you have the best of all worlds.
The 955i is a tried and tested model with few issues (if any). They are great to ride fast and long distance and you still have the Thrux for cool classic charm.

Both are sports/tourers but the emphasis is on the touring with the 995 whilst the 1050 the emphasis is on the sports. The 1050 has a more willing engine and much sharper handling but the 995 is better for passenger comfort and is "softer" all round. Might want also to consider the Tiger 1050 as this is the touring version of the Sprint 1050.
Go to a dealer and try all three. All are reliable with no real faults but just have very different characters so personal choice should be the decider.

Get the new Sprint and send the Thrux to us for good care. I bet I could even convince HiDesert to take it out once in a while.
Really, if you can have both; why not?

I've had my 01 Sprint ST since 2002. I find it a great compliment to my new 07 T100. I don't foresee any type of cycling I couldn't do on one or the other. I wish my ST had hard bags, but backpacks work. The 01 ST is a 104hp bike - plenty of power and you can find them with high miles for pocket change - 16K-24K $3000. Let us know how it turns out!

Oh, all right, as long as it's for the greater good. Or something. :

Get the older sprint. I think the performance gains in the new sprints are marginal. They certainly look more modern. But are they 60% better? Which is the price differential between a second hand 955 and a new 1050!
