Stinging criticism of Britain
As an ex pat Pom living abroad I found this article disturbing, quite possibly because I think it's conceivable that much said here could prove to be true. Is this man correct or is he a doomsayer or is he issuing a wake up call?
What do people think?
If I may I'd like to suggest that we keep a lid on emotions on this one please .

Billionaire Hedge Fund Manager in greed and morality outburst shocker. Don't really care if he's right or not, just think it's a bit pot-kettle, especially this quote:
"A few greedy people in the City of London and Wall Street took billions of bonuses and profits. It's horrible economics. It's terrible morality."

If I was a billionaire hedge fund manager, maybe going short on Sterling, I wonder if I'd say something similar.

I wouldn't believe a word that comes from the mouths of that guy or Soros, they only have their own interests at heart. As Saphena indicates he's talking down the economy with a purpose in mind. They're gamblers playing the field and trying to stack the odds.
The way the British government is dishing out money I hope they have enough to shore up the Pound when its attacked by these sharpsters.

I agree, it is 'rich' that he is talking down the UK when George and he made billions shorting the same economy in the early '90s.
But, underneath it all, I think he is right.
Labour and the Conservatives have not found anything new for Britain plc to make that the rest of the world wants and or needs. So what will we be doing from here on in?
Me, as soon as, I like to move out.

just another rat
people like him can do real damage listen if you went to a pub or restaurant in the city where banker's and investors hung out and talked loudly about a company in trouble or the share were not doing very well that company shares would go down the very next day , this guy is a huge gambler and its obvious he wants to talk down the economy to his advantage he's made billions with other peoples shares and money he operates in a very murky part of the trading environment some say almost getting on to fraud

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't thought about it from the perspective most of you are describing (yeah I know, I'm a bit slow on the uptake). It's scary to think that one person has such influence and clout as he seems to have.
So what to do?
Ah yes, I know:
Stiff upper lip and carry on regardless!
Well that's what we do best isn't it ?

Rogers has made some very profitable calls over time, and has never been shy about crowing when he's right. He seems to have gone a bit over the edge lately, moving to Asia with a new wife and young children, bashing banks and currencies more than praising positive opportunities.
On a sidenote, he is an adventurer biker, with a number of bike/travel books to his credit.
I personally think the slide in the pound is near overdone.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself.
Pot Kettle? Damn right.
Hes cut and run and is now trying to destabilise the recovery plan knowing that it won't effect him other than that he can maybe move in and make a killing when the dust settles.
The only thing he's right about is that maybe the Govt shouldn't have bailed out the banks, instead people like him should have been investigated and any bonuses or millions made out of the financial wreck they caused should have been sequestrated, and then used to provide the financial rescue package. Then we could have provided loans or incentives from taxpayers to companys to kick start manufacturing back at home and not out source jobs to other countries.
As I posted elsewhere the first country to recover from the great depression of the 30's was Sweden and they followed Keynsian ideas and spent massively. Basicaly saying to hell with balancing books, get people earning and spending and the economy will recover. And you klnow what? It worked!

The only problem now is that everything we are able to buy is manufactured abroad and thus will not provide jobs here in the UK.
People will think twice before purchasing high ticket items such as cars. Look at the news interviews at car plant gates, most of the (soon to be redundant) workers drive cars made abroad.
I for one don't know what to make of the situation, there are jobs available (so the politicians tell us) but it seems only ones which pay the minimum wage or close. Unless we recover our place as a major manufacturer in diverse industries there will be no jobs for a skilled workforce.
