Bah! Humbug!
I tell ya what, I have had it with these overcommercialised christmases.
When I was a kid it was just about getting together and having a good time. Decorations went up around the middle of december.
The bleedin' stores over here start selling decorations immediately after Hallowe'en! I am bombarded constantly with things like "have you done your shopping? There's only 30 days left!"
30 days? You can buy the bloody world in 30 days! The whole nation goes into a panic buying mode - the shopping malls are like war zones! Bernard help me out here! :
So. Calming down. I have decided that I will not partake of the commercialism side of christmas any more. This year, I will be simply thanking my family and friends for existing and being around, wishing them well, and handing out a few bottles of hand crafted beer for those who might appreciate it, a firm handshake of well wishing, and perchance, a mince pie. That'll do me thankyou.

....don't get me started
Many of the bigger stores opened special 'christmas departments' in October (pre hollow'een!), when asked why? the general reply was "well the customers were asking for it"
Resisted all temtations till last sunday, then again it's only a 4' plug & play tree!!!
Happy Christmas folks

Moderation in all things, including moderation.
He is the reason for the season, not presents.
And shalom to our members who celebrate Hanukkah as well.

Bah Humbug
For sure Prop, I know the feeling. My wife and I have been on strike against the "commercialism" of christmas for some years now.
What we do is make things. She's a painter and also makes a wicked fudge, I do different wood products or whatever i can make in the shop, this year, for instance, I made Pileated Woodpecker door knockers....it's a cutout of a woody, that pecks when you pull a little string on it.
We both think that things that come from the hand are much more preferable and communicate our love instead of some plastic thing from Wal Mart!
It works well for us, people start asking in November what our gift is this year....lol....but we have had nothing but good comments over your little things.
We are both confident that what we do makes our christmas special all around and we love to make things for others.
this year I noticed christmas stuff going on the shelf the first of november....not even waiting for thanksgiving...not to mention the "black friday" thing where retailers lick their chops over the money they take in. Did't happen this year...hmmmmm
Gotta tell you a funny one, I lived in Milwaukee Wisconsin for a time, there was a guy on North Oakland avenue who every year would put this huge "Bah Humbug" sign on the second story of his house. It was picked up by the wire services and became an Icon of the anti-christmas crowd.....appeared in the local paper every year and drew streams of visitors to see it. Ironically, my stepson requested the same sign for his front gate, I delivered it yesterday and helped him hang it up....what fun.
