Am hoping to buy a used clutch cover for my 08 efi and get it powder coated black, does anybody know if this part has changed over time? I'm assuming that the efi engine stayed the same, but any advise would be great.
There are 3 clutch covers listed in the parts lists but the different part numbers refer to the finish. Mechanically they're the same, otherwise the listings would specify different engine numbers, so I think you'll be OK. Here is the listing:
Hey Rob, does that mean the covers themselves changed atall over the years to accommodate for this? I'm looking for a spare one to have it painted and I have seen 2 different part numbers on the inner cases 1261260 and 1260495. I'm buying second hand and don't want the wrong one if they do vary
I have just had the same problem, I bought a polished clutch cover for my 08 carb Scrambler.
The original casing on my Scrambler has a smaller hole for the gear change shaft than the casing I bought to replace it.
The gear change shaft has changed from 12mm diameter to 14mm diameter.
The problem is you look at the part numbers on the world of triumph website there are 3 different casing numbers as Forchetto says, but if you look at the gear change shaft, item 20 on this, http://www.worldoftriumph.com/trium...ck_01=&block_02=100067114-0-2&block_03=233334, one is 12mm diameter the other is 14mm diameter and no reference to which shaft fits which engine numbers.
I modified my gear change shaft by adding a sleeve that fits through the bigger bearing and seal.
Here is the sleeve I bought 12mm id 14mm od
Fixed the sleeve to the shaft with Delta 22 bearing retainer.
Making sure it was positioned so that the sleeve projected through the seal.
Blimey, don't feel so stupid for asking the question now! I don't suppose anyone knows the part number for the 12mm shaft cover(assuming that's what my 08 thrux would be) or do I simply look for any cover pre dating 2010?
item number 4 is the needle bearing that fits in the clutch cover, as you can see there are 2 number 4's listed.
Part number 3800041-T0301 is for the 12mm shaft, and is for engine numbers up to 370926
Part number T3800001 is for the 14mm shaft and is for engine numbers 370927 onwards.
The part number you quoted for the clutch cover, 1260495, is for the 12mm shaft, engine numbers up to 370926.
I would check your engine number to see which one you need.
Hope this helps!
I'm wondering if the 12mm needle bearing & oil seal can be swapped out with later 14mm counterparts? In other words, are the stripped cast covers the same? I only have 12mm in my stash of covers. How about the clutch actuator rod & ball bearing, the same?
I tried that and the 14mm needle bearing will not fit in the case as it is a larger OD. The oil seals are the same OD but the 12mm seal is thicker. The clutch actuator and ball bearing swap over ok.
Heres a pic of the 12mm and 14mm bearings (12mm fitted in case)
So after buying what I thought was the correct clutch cover for my bike it now transpires that I also have the 14mm bearing when I need the 12mm
Gumpt100 I have messaged you ref where to buy the sleeve and glue to amend the problem. Also if you could let me know if it's still holding up mate? I'm hoping for a 100% reliable fix, not just a temporary one, otherwise I'll try and source yet another clutch cover. Many thanks
Hi lifting this old thread up. Still "struggling" abit with my thruxton covers. I have the 12mm shaft and looking a factory black powercoated cover, are there those made for twins? Any part number if it is.
I found on ebay one, and looks like for the 12mm shaft. It has some bad scratches and seller dont know the number.
Check photo sealing, looks like the smaller sealing with correct numbers.
If anybody wants to fit later clutch cover to a bonneville with 12mm gear shaft . The best permanent fix is to change change the bearing and seal for the 12mm shaft. I used hk1212 bearing fitted into a 1mm bush then pressed into the case then a 22x12x4 oil seal. all readily available from bearing suppliers.
Nice, this was what I was looking for. Need to look for these ones. Thanks bigyen!
