Steering Stem Nut Size?

2009 mag wheel EFI Bonnie Black:
OK - what must be a stupid question - what size is the big nut on the steering stem (the one on top of the yoke)? 27mm is too small - the only thing I found via research was 30 mm - but that is very sloppy loose.
Also - what size are the big nut and locknut on the bearings themselves (the ones which require the special thin spanners)?

I just want to snug up the bearings a bit.

Do you have any "American" (SAE) sockets............I replaced the one on my '12 when I installed a Farley and Ace steering damper. I'm sorry that I don't remember the size one that I used, and I'm not anywhere near where I can check the size. I don't have metric sockets as large as needed for the stem nut, so it had to be an SAE one, probably a 1 1/16" or 1 1/8".
Hope this helps: Jim

Yeah Jim - I think 1 1/8" (which is 28.575 mm) might work - but I can't get the socket fully in there without removing the handlebars. Really just wanted to do this quick and easy. Getting a bit of a wobble/weave when slowing down between 50-40 mph - typical of many bikes. Tires are new-ish. Got worse with top box installed (also typical). No play in the head bearings that I can detect. Bike only has 16,000 miles on it.
I've tightened up the bearings on many Japanese bikes and replaced them on my old '93 ST1100.

How about trying a box-end wrench? Of course you may not have one of that size hanging around........it's not a common one in tool kits, I believe. I think that I used a short 1/2 inch drive socket and was able to "fiddle" it in before I put the extension on it. Might be worth a look in a bargain tool store and see if there's a short one for sale.
Just a couple of thoughts: Jim

38.2mm AF or 1-1/2" AF

Forchetto posted up a picture of the thin spanners with dimensions. I made a pair and they worked well, maybe do a search and you will find it
