Barend mirrors Biltwell Tracker

Having some trouble with these eBay 1" barend mirrors. The smaller insert which I assume is for 7/8ths, ends up never biting inside - smaller diameter by probability a millimeter or 2.

The larger inserts (shown on the mirror) which must be for 1" (this handlebar) are too large by a millimeter, I've even tried clamping them in with a vice grip... but it'd mean the outer solid edge wouldn't fit regardless, as it's machined a bit thick.

Just clamping around the bar instead would require chiseling out the clamp diameter, looks like they're meant for tapered-to-7/8 bars

Tips, tricks?

I made some progress using a produce rubber band. The barend does NOT come out, requires muscle to wiggle pull out, but I can still rotate it around with a bit of force. I'm certain it'd stay put, but I'd rather actually lock it in with metal to metal.

Im going to sand off the powder coating inside the bar and try the bigger sleeves this weekend.

I may be misreading you (if so, I apologize), but I've got the tracker bars (7/8ths) on my Bonneville (2012) and ordered these barend mirrors to add on. I ended up rolling electrical tape around them. Took a couple of tries to get the desired thickness, but they're on, tightened down nicely into postion and have not budged in several higher speed rides.

a little trick I have used with 100% success in similar situations is to pull out the tin snips, cut a soda can open to a sheet of aluminium and then trim a strip down that I roll up and insert into the bar with the expandable joint. The joint digs into the aluminium and the insert/bar end/ etc are in for good.

I'm fairly certain I found a solution with this thick reinforced rubbery hose from the hardware store. I got two pieces for free, an inch or so. I split it and cut maybe 3/8ths off it, then wrapped it around just one metal expansion sleeve (the smallest one). Pushed it into the handlebar flush, tightened up the bolt. The entire assembly is impossible to pull out, requires force to rotate (which will endlessly "tighten"... However if rotating" lefty loosey", the bolt will eventually back out of the conical wedge nut. I don't see this being an issue while riding, but I'm sure loctite will really help. The hose is never coming out unless you use compressed air!

Hi justinlself

I bought something similar from ebay, and had the same problem with 1" bars.
My solution was similar to yours. It was impossible to make them fit with the supplied fitting.
I had some ground anchor bolts which the supplied bolt would fit into, and then used a small section of car breather hose to make up the difference. Works a treat.
I know they are Chinese , but apart from the dodgy fitting the mirror parts and the bar end seem to be very good.I am very pleased with them for the price.
I wanted the Oberon ones that I had seen at the carol nash bike show, but couldn't justify the £100 price tag.

I see that they have changed the description now further down the page to 7/8ths :smile2:

I did get the left mirror in fine but the right didn't wanna cooperate. I ended up losing the tapered expansion nut inside the bar, but...

I didn't see a way to remove the inner rubber hose inside the bar since the sleeve is inside it sooo I thought I'd try shimming the bolt with tape and tap the mirror assembly in.. ended up pushing the hose and sleeve an inch deeper. Fack! At this point, I'm either getting a new right side grip n(since this has a hole for mirror in it), or repeating the **** up on the other side and getting a different pair of barend mirrors.

I had similar mirrors that I got to mount with a different 1 in adapter from bike master.
also I wasn't pleased with how well those mirrors held their position so I got new mirrors and used a new way of adapting them to 1inch bars. Here's a post I created for it.

My Scrambler will not see anything more than gravel and dirt roads. I put Joker Machine mirrors on it. Candidly, the JM mirrors are very good quality, but I am not completely thrilled with them. I thought they would be easily flipped in and out, which would be nice for in the garage, or if one wanted to lane split. That is not the case. They tighten down with allen heads and are not readily adjustable. I'll keep them for now, but eventually I'll be looking for something else.....Far be it from me to criticize made in China product when I'm not totally happy with my made in the USA product. Good quality, but in my opinion, not a great design.

I just mount a left handed bar end mirror on my bikes. Visibility is fine for the quick checks that shouldn't replace turning your head and looking with your eyes. Sorry if this comes off preachy. I don't like f'ing around with the throttle sleeve either, just too paranoid about it sticking.
