I've installed clipons on my 2013 Thrux and have run into in an issue. I can't narrow the width due to the front brake master cylinder hitting the bar clamp. Any suggestions on a way around this? If I had the 'urine' cup style master cylinder this wouldn't be a problem but the mc on the 2013 is part of the controls and can't be removed as far as I can tell. Thanks!
Here is a pic of the set up now. I'd like to go as narrow as the stock bars. Right now I can get about a quarter of the way there before the the MC hits the bar clamp. As you can see the MC is part of the controls and can't be moved separately.
Looks like you need either different clip-ons (perhaps Tarozzi) or a different master cylinder. Tarozzi's solved this problem on my Suzuki GS, and may work on the Bonneville also.
You're really limited on what you can do. You can't swap the MC because no one makes an aftermarket for these version. You could swap it for a Rocket III's for better stopping, but that doesn't fix your issue. Ace Bars from Norman Hyde are one of, if not the best option. You could swap controls for an older model with 7/8 controls. Its sort of difficult to do, but doable. Woodcraft makes risers for their clipons. That might solve your issue...something like a 1 1/2 or 2in risers...
There are a lot of aftermarket master cylinders available from places like Mike's XS and eBay. Any one designed for a 1" handlebar and a single brake disk should work. Not terribly expensive.
The issue isn't finding an aftermarket MC it's that the factory MC is part of the controls and can't be removed. In order to use an aftermarket piece I'd have to replace the throttle and all the electronic controls
So close kids. LSL clamps allow for the width I was after. I used Woodcraft bars but now my issue is that the Woodcraft bars have a 5/8 ID so I can't use my bar end mirrors as they are minimum 7/8". Anyone know of a 5/8 bar end mirror or a mirror that has a ID of 1" that would clamp on the bar?
I just installed my Woodcraft's last week and discovered that the ID of the bars didn't allow my bar-ends to fit either. I'm happy that the Woodcraft's are a stout bar but a little bummed about the mirror. My mirrors used a bolt w/ two aluminum sleeves that expand and lock together (as I'm sure most are). I took the outer sleeve off which allowed the inner sleeve to expand enough to lock the mirror in place. I found a rubber gromet to put over the bolt toward the outer edge of the mirror to keep it locked in place. It works for now, but I may re-visit it later. Love the Woodcrafts.
Grind about 1mm off of the bottom corner of the right lower outside of clipon bar mount so the MC will clear and slide all the way in.
CRG bar end mirror inserts
Any 7/8 bar end mirror
I'l post up pics of the set up tomorrow as I'm off, I'm still figuring out the exact width that I want to go with so I haven't yet trimmed the ends of the bars yet. FYI I have a set of Black 1" Joker Machine Clipons (41mm) that are like new for 130.00 Shipped.
