Thinking of installing the Norman Hyde fork brace on my 2008 Scrambler. My bike is put to bed for the winter so it's a bit tough to get to to inspect, so I ask without really checking, how are the gaiters attached to and removed from the fork slider? Do they just fit snugly around them and you have to work them up and off without any tools? And do folks here recommend the notion of a fork brace in general? I see some disagreement on it on various threads, was wondering the latest thinking.... the Hyde unit looks like the one i may go with. Thanks in advance. Chris.
Gaiters fit over the top of the sliders, and usually are snug enough not to need a clamp. You'll need to get a brace that has the flange to attach gaiters. Hyde sells one.
Thanks Bob, I actually took a look at them after I sent this note (had to move the snow blower, etc... argh...), they are indeed not clamped but VERY snug - I'll try and work them up. I may but the Hyde-branded brace with the flange, looks like a a nice unit. I've read some of the back and forth on whether a brace makes sense, but prior to stowing my bike I hit some bumpy pavement in a high-speed corner and man, lots of what I perceived to be fork flex... the bike has progressive springs up front and Ikons on back, and rather new Bridgestone tires that are properly inflated so I'm hoping a brace helps matters.
There are Short Fork Brace Gaiters available so your stock gaiters won't look like your Granny's drooping socks. You need to specify that you want the gaiter version of the NH brace. Motone's Fork Brace only comes set-up for gaiters or plastic stone guards.
