Scrambler engine shut off

Hello everyone,

I bought a -07 carb Scrambler this spring. A low milage, unique black and white beauty with a lot of mods. First owner was a triumph dealer who repainted it directly after delivery. It got an airbox removal kit, Dynojet kit, Arrow exhaust, Nology wires (and I think coils), aftermarket tach. It also got rear fender and turn signals replaced etc etc. list goes on..

All looked great on the outside and test ride was a joy so I bought it.

After a couple of weeks the engine suddenly shut off during a full throttle acceleration. I first thought of fuel but I got half tank and it started with no problem. I also checked the fuel vent and it occurs even with fuel cap open. It shuts off so sudden so it must be electrical.

I read about CDI issues and tried pressing and tapping the ignitor but it no problems there. I removed the rib under the seat and put distances to make sure the seat wasnt touching the ignitor.

The bike runs so well otherwise, absolutely no problems when cruising. just the engine shut of during full throttle acceleration. Not everytime, but happens almost some time when I drive more agressive.

Can it still be the ignitor? The electrical wiring has been tampered with...can a bad connection in some of the mods that causes this problem?

The only things I did since I bought it was making a new bracket for the fusebox because of the airbox removal kit wasnt designed for scrambler. The other thing was to remove the tach but that was after first time I experienced the problems.
I also fiddle with idle and removed a dl of engine oil....thats it.

I hope its not the CDI. I didnt manage to shut the engine off by pressing or knocking on it and moving the wiring around.

Anyone with an idea of what can cause this problem?

Sorry for the long post.

A friend of mine is going through the same thing. It's hard to say or pinpoint if the electrics have been tampered with. That's the problem with "mods" once you leave factory intact which themselves can have faults, you enter the twilight zone. Could be a grounded wire, the igniter on mine went when it was warmed, started when cold. Could be the hall sensor ( pickup coil), ignition switch. My friend bought a new wiring harness to try to fix his. Forchetto should be contacted he may help.
