I was on the motorway, (not going slowly), when I began to feel some hesitation when turning up the power. By the time I reached Liverpool, it was terrible with the engine burping, spluttering & even backfiring.
Thinking it was a fuelling issue, I replaced the fuel filter & large brillo pad filter at the end of the fuel pump. Filled it with nice clean fuel, but with the same results of engine hesitating, burping, spluttering & backfiring.
So after hooking up TuneECU, I realised my throttle bodies were way out of sync (320 & 220). It took ½ a turn balance them at 290. Not good obviously as they should be 360 hPa. This also leaves me with a TPS reading of 0.65!
Pieman has stated on another thread that there are two possible problems, either throttle bodies are way out of balance or there is a vacuum leak on one cylinder which is making it look like they’re out of balance.
I’ve checked the MAP sensor rubbers and also sprayed carb/throttle cleaner all around the hoses etc while idling. There was no rpm change. I also tried the engine side of the throttle body inlet tracts.
Is it time to remove the throttle bodies to physically see and measure if the butterflies?
If this is the case, I may just admit defeat and take it to the stealership!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
